Is there a COR protecting the RX IN on a K3S that does not have a KAT3 or a
KRX3 installed? I can't find a definitive answer in the manual or the Nabble
archive. Thanks.

I recently purchased a Bose QC-45. I used it for about 5 minutes in a
CWops contest, and got RF in the left headphone. I disconnected it, and
returned to my Bose QC-35's. The QC-45's have been returned to Amazon.
I had a similar problem earlier in the year with the Bose 700
headphones. I
Bill,
What is the level of the MCU (before you changed it), and what level did
you try putting in?
And what is the serial number of your K2? Those may help to solve the
problem.

Matt,
I Forgot to mention that to Bill. The special cable does not have to be
very long, but it must be present. Only pins 2, 3 and 5 should connect
to the RS232 connector on the USB to serial adapter. Failure to follow
this will cause several "strange happenings" with the K2. The subject
Don’t forget, you can’t plug in a USB adapter directly into a K2, as the
wiring is not standard RS232C. You need to make up a special adapter as
described in the manual. Probably you know this already, but just something
else to check.

I do have an older revision of the firmware for U6. I did try before
substituting the KPA100 U4, and it didn’t address the issue.
I guess this will require more sleuthing.

For completeness I thought I would copy my original message for the doubters.

The K3S does transmit in Test mode. I've seen 50W of output from my
KPA500, while in Test mode.

Didn't see an answer to the question.
I can confirm that my K3 with USB upgrade does output the CW side tone
audio. This was confirmed by Launching Logger32 and looking at the audio
in the MMTTY RX waterfall display.
A simple test that probably took less time than launching an email.
Interesting. I've checked mine (K3, not 'S') carefully and there is no
measurable output in test mode.
