Hello again,
Still building a K2. I got to the PLL reference oscillator range test and did
have to remove one turn from the toroid. My range at first was 20.6 Khz.
I got it down to 15.38Khz. I am worried if I remove another turn it will be too
low. I went ahead with the continued testing and all
Hi David,
Thanks for the synopsis below. I found it very useful being unfamiliar
with amateur practice over the years with OCF antennas. My antennas are
all center fed.
I replied to this message because it was the most informative. Other,

I get a pass while saying this because I am also an opinionated, crotchety,

I wonder if this food fight might reach its denouement on another channel?
It seems to have been sparked by an OCFD discussion not relevant to anything
Elecraft, and to have evolved into personal preferences and grievances.
Maybe we should take on End Fed Zepps next? Or take the whole thing

Can you have fun with OCF or other compromise antennas? Yes. But other

Exactly right. On my Chicago city lot, I had a fan dipole for 20/15/10,
a trap dipole for those bands, and an inductively loaded dipole for 80
Bill,
Make certain you have +12 volts on U4 pin 1 and +5 volts on U4 pin 16
and about -25 volts (-8 to -27 volts) on U4 pin 8.
If those are correct, replace U4 and it should work)

I had very good results running mobile with 100 watts and a hustler on the

Your notes about the success of various real-world examples leaves out what

About 10 days ago, I was having trouble with the K2/100, as it was no longer
talking to WSJT-X correctly. I could get the audio running, but it would never
contact the radio.
Trying to set up for CQ WW Phone, I had the same trouble with N1MM.
Tried to use the PORT TEST feature by going to the

Well, at least now I can feel like I ordered a K4 cuz I'm waiting too.

Sorry about the October 1st mention - I thought I had
placed my order for the KPA3A 100 watt upgrade

end of July. I estimated 12 weeks from end of June,
and that is the source of the mistaken October 1st

NOT SO, DICK TRACY
Hi Dan
Good question. I'll answer as a non-expert as best I can.
This is essentially a quest for a multi-band dipole that is easy to make and
use. If you can put up mono band dipoles and beams for all your bands, you
probably will not bother going this route.

My story is too good to pass up this bragfest. On October 7 I had a

I own an upgraded K3, a K3S, a KPOD, a KPA500 and a KAT500. I used the latter
two with a brand K transceiver and very modest antennas to work them (so far) on
25 of the 29 slots they operated on.
In my book six-meters doesn't count and they only made a handful of 60-meter CW
and SSB Qs so
