Re: [Elecraft] Recommendation for Microphone for K3s?

2022-11-03 Thread R
My Yamaha CM500 fell off the desk & broke. I just purchased a pair of
Logitech G335 headphones/mic ($40) to replace the Yamahas. The Logitech
plugged right in to the K3s & seems to be working fine. I have done one
over the air test with a friend & he thought I sounded good. I plan on
using them during sweepstakes, perhaps I will have more to say after that.

[Elecraft] Fwd: Headphones

2022-11-03 Thread John Evans
Neil,

I'm glad you took this discussion in this direction. I, too, wear BTE
aids and though I spend most time on CW, from time to time it is nice to
work SSB. The chat here has got me thinking how I might use my Sennheiser
headphones with foam pads as they are wonderful for music at least. They
don't block out background noise but they are very comfortable. All I'd
need to do is add a mic and I'd be good to go. I'm looking at the Grado
Sr's right now so that could be an option.

Dan Pressley is correctheadphone choice is personal. Being severely
hearing impaired with BTE hearing aids in both ears I found the GRADO SR
basic phones excellent. They are open back which allows the usage without
the nasty feedback from closed back. Not all phones are compatible with
hearing aids. GRADO makes expensive professional phones as well. However
the basic ones are excellent. I have had them for years. In fact I gave a
gift of a pair to a friend who has excellent hearing and he said the
clarity was excellent. Neil N4FN

Re: [Elecraft] 40-80m choices antenna for KX3

2022-11-03 Thread Walter Underwood
The Hy-Power trap/fan antenna for 80/40/20 is a very clever design. A full
length 40 m dipole, then a loaded 80 m dipole where the center portion is cut
for 20 m. The loading coils act as traps. The loaded dipole is just about the
same length as the 40 m dipole, 70 feet.

Check out the 3B2080SFAN on this page.

I had to take mine down a few years ago when our walnut tree died. I just
figured out how to rig it diagonally across our roof after a few frustrating
years with a home-brew non-resonant vertical.

Here are a couple of photos of the previous installation. That is a Balun
Designs QRP balun at the feed point. That dropped noise by about 6 dB.

Re: [Elecraft] Recommendation for Microphone for K3s?

2022-11-03 Thread Ed Cole

I also bought the Antlion Modmic. Previously, tried the CM500 and they
caused my hearing aids to "howl" in feedback (not even connected to a
radio).

The Modmic uses a tiny earth magnet that attaches to my revered old Sony
stereo headset. The mic boom clicks to the magnet securely. I tested
both normal and cardiod pattern settings with good reports with my K3.

Comes with two lengths extension wires, PTT module, and 1/4 to 3.5mm
stereo adapter, all in a neat zipped carrying case (for when do not want
a boom mic). Mic has wind-blast foam cover for operating outdoors.

I mainly bought it for using with my KX3 operating portable mw shots
with small tripod-mounted dish on SSB. Also, good for SSB Contesting or
running a net when you want hands free for logging.

If I is was not clear - that i the beauty of the ModMic you can add it
to any headphones. And it does not damage the headphones and when you
remove the mic the attachment point is small and does not affect
the headphones in anyway. So I can use my Bose on the airplanes and
then pop the mic on them when I get to the ham staiton. And it easy
to take off when I am not on voice modes.

Re: [Elecraft] Recommendation for Microphone

2022-11-03 Thread Jan

Seeing the discussion about a suitable mike for the Elecraft transceivers

I have been using the Koss CS 100 headset myself and like it ~ light
weight ...and  found the Behringer XM8500 from my sons band gets good
reports on the K4 also.

Currently clearing and estate and I have the following  available in
good condition for sale on QTH.com  . . . all tested on the K4

Each has an Electret Microphone element with Stereo Headphones
All have the 3.5mm stereo plugs on the mice and earphone cables
(a) Andrea NS125 ~ for 9
(b) Koss CS100 ~ for 14
(c) Yamaha CM-500 ~ for 34
(d) Koss SB-45 ~ for 21
ADD $ 7 to each towards shipping cost via USPS
