Not really. He asked about the KAT3, not the K3. The KAT3 can handle
some very wide impedances, but the question is can it handle full power
from the K3 when it sees a high SWR at the output. For example, how
much power can the KAT3 handle for 10 minutes when trying to match an
SWR of

Duty Cycle CW and SSB modes, 100% 10-min. 100W key-down at 25 C ambient
I think this answers the question.

I ordered a Yamaha CM-500 from Amazon but it came through some other company
after waiting eight days and there were problems.
1. The original factory packaging was gone.
2. It came wound in bubble wrap, then stuffed into a cardboard box that had
been cut down from a larger box and taped
FT8 is definitely full duty cycle for its 13 second transmit period, but
of course then it is idle for the last two period and idle for the 15
seconds it is receiving.

Not just the tuner, the K3 is not rated for full power on 100% duty cycle
modes. Just like it's not rated or 100% key down CW. But realize that
many of the modes are half transmit and half listen.
Different digital modes have different duty cycles.
From the W1HKJ.com website:
100% duty cycle:

use the key line interrupt connected to the W2 watt meter or should I connect
the key line interrupt to the KAT500? Do I even need to use key line interrupt
with the K line set up?"
Why would it hurt to have
Both of my CM500s - one a dozen or so years old, the other about
five hears old - have stops that limit the mic rotation to around
160 degrees (just shy of vertical up to just shy of vertical down).
I see no way of putting the mic on the right side - at least
without completely disassembling
My older one could have the mic on either side, but the new one I just
got appears to have stops to prevent over-rotating the pivot on the
earphone and eventually breaking the mike cable (definitely a problem
with the older one, and you can guess how I know.)

FWIW: I use my K3/KAT3 at 100 W in RTTY contests with no issues. %
derating could be a function of the complex impedance at the end of your
transmission line ... my match on all bands is not terrible.

Just tried mine and it doesn’t swivel all the way. The ear cups are slightly
slanted, so it might fit oddly when reversed.

Sometimes I run my K3s with a KPA500 and KAT500, other times I run an IC-7300
with the “500 Twins.” Both work fine.
I have a nagging question about the 7300, though. If you have your 7300 pretty
much figured out, please get in touch via my email address:

Thanks.

I just received my Yamaha CM500 headset and I have a question.
Can the mic boom be swiveled around counterclockwise so the mic can be on my
right side?
Didn’t want to try before asking.

Many thanks.

My KX1 remains keyed when I use a straight key, but works fine when I change
settings and use a paddle. Any recommendations?

Help:
Hello. I recently bought a very nice K3 from a friend. It has the KAT3
auto-tuner installed. Due to the duty cycle of most digital modes, most, if
not all, external auto tuners are "de-rated" for digital modes. I haven't
been able to find any reference to this for the KAT3. Does anyone know
The KAT500 will interrupt the amp properly. Radio key line goes to KAT,
then KAT key line goes to KPA. Coax is opposite: Rig to Amp, then Amp
to Tuner, then Tuner to Antenna.
