When I set my filters 200-500Hz, with CWT on, and tune to strong signal, I
can touch SPOT and see the frequency jump a bit. On my P3, I don't see the
vertical green line jump to the peak of the signal. How is that?

Any luck with that Bob? I've been using Winlink on Packet VHF from a Kenwood
TM-D710G but wanted to try 80m with my K3S. I'm to the point where Ardop is
trying to connect to a local gateway about 5mi away from a 43ft vertical

Our downstairs, including my shack, was being remodeled and I just put my
system back together.
The good news:
1. K3S runs and I can RX FT8 on WSJT-X 2.1.2 - CAT works fine
2. Remote ATU works when I hit TUNE on the K3S - SWR read goes to 1.0 (I
have a Directional Coupler/Panadapter TX Sensor
I ran mine with a WSPRlite on 40m at 200mW with 2 counterpoise for a day,
then added a 3rd counterpoise with no improvement observed. Spots out to
2400km from 300ft elevation. Mount was atop a 4ft tripod with counterpoise
arrayed on grass.

I’m finding it very useful to use a miniVNA to arrange 2 counterpoise wires
for 20m for low SWR *before* engaging the ATU on my KX2. A random toss of
wires might yield SWR > 9 and better arrangement < 2 SWR. I’ll try the same
for 40m but may have trouble getting those wires to fit inside a hotel

using a short coax to mount the antenna on THE Elecraft tripod base, is

Hi Don,
No metal on those USD Audio Adaptors, unfortunately. I tried some Audio
Isolator Transformers but those just gave PTT ERR on my KX2.
I see some USB and Ethernet Laptop Ground devices that the EMF-sensitive
people seem to use - I don't know if they work at all.
While I had quite a few Mix31 beads on antenna coax and the various other
power, CAT and audio cables connecting my rig, it seems adding a few more
helped. I think it was a ferrite bead on the special cable set that connects
the KXPA100 and KX2 that did the trick. RF leaking in somehow!

40/30/20 coax feed, another before the coax feeds the KXPA100 and another

While running FT8 on my KX2/KXPA100, the TX red LED will sometimes stay on
and the FT8 waterfall shows blank (like when TXing). ALC is stuck on 1 Bar
when I've got it set 4-5 Bars. If I click Tune in WSJT-X once or twice I see
the 4-5 Bars ALC and then all returns to normal.
Is TX being "Stuck
It comes to mind I have an Elecraft T1 ATU I might try attaching directly to
the base of the AX1 rather than relying on the KX2 ATU 25-40ft from the
antenna. I try to operate closer but sometimes have to run that RG58 to
clear obstructions. Thoughts?

My AX1 came with a nut embedded in the plate opposite of the BCN connectors.
It seems the right place to add a knurled-head screw to affix the
counterpoise(s) during use. I went to the hardware store and the clerk and I
tried every screw that looked like it might fir but no-go. Does anyone know
I'll add that, with Win10 volume mixer sliders set at 50%, WSJT-X slider set
to 50%, MIC GAIN is at 3-4 to get 4 bars with 5th flashing. Running Win10
volume mixer slider to 100% does not allow 4-5 bars on the KX2 TX even with
MIC GAIN on 1 and WSJT-X slider near zero.

Yep - got that set with PC at ~30%, WSJT-X slider at ~60% and MIC (Line Gain)
at 18 so 4 bars solid and 5th just flickers. The LEDs on the KPA500 remain
steady, it's just the P3TXMON that seems to vary.

Just starting to use my KPXD2 paddles on my KX2. I have them set to Iambic B.
The left paddle will give only dits if pressed and held any length of time.
The right paddle when pressed will give either dahs or fits and dahs,
depending on length of press. I can do a R or K by pressing the right

I have a K3S/KPA500/KAT500 setup configured with AUX cables in the Enhanced
configuration. Two antennas are connected to ANT1 and ANT2. The ANT LED is
Green on 1 and when the ANT button is pressed will not select the antenna

That seemed to do the trick Don. Edging the WSJT-X Power Slider down to
mid-scale and K3S MIC LINE IN to ~30 gave me the wiggle room to get the 5th
bar flashing. In fact, flashing just a bit was less effective than flashing
a lot, but still short of solid 5th bar ON. But I guess the 5th bar flash
I just treated myself to a pair of SP3s, and I find them very nice speakers.
Easy to configure on my K3S and the position to L/R ends of the Elecraft row
of P3/K3S/KPA500 give a good stereo effect.

At present, I have my PC's USB Audio Codec Playback Level set at 35%, and am
adjusting ALC with the MIC knob. With the WSTJ-X Tune ON, I'm slowly
increasing MIC until the 3rd bar shows. Further increase jumps directly to
the 5th bar, with no 4th bar appearing or flashing 5th bar.
I could swear I
Adjusting power still has me stymied. Oddly, once set and TXing WSJT-X FT8
15sec cycles, it creeps up from 180-200W on the KPA500 readout towards 270W.
The P3TXMON reads lower but creeps up over 200W on successive TX cycles as

was indeed coming back from the dead - not showing in Task Manager Processes
but listening on ntp Port 123. Ending Process with TCPView seems more
effective. Bullet to the head for those Zombie Apps!

great for digital work like WSJT-X.
I have Network Time Protocol disabled in Administrative Services and I run
ToyNPT as Administrator. It has worked fine for a year.
I thought that might be the case. I did see an old thread where an option was
mentioned by Wayne to do that, but perhaps that never transpired. Thank you

As mentioned in another thread, I'm running my shack on a UPS that is rated
1500va/900w. With my K3S/100 and other hardware plugged in on the same input
the UPS often max's out at 900W at < 100W on the K3S. Typically, the
baseline with K3S on RX is ~350W and it spikes over 900W with TX at 100W and

Yep - LOAD to Antenna. That's what I thought should be correct. So why I
installed it backwards last August, I'll never know! I just reversed it.
Numbers look spot on now. *And* I see the UPS I'm using appears to limit
output if I exceed the power draw specification. I just installed the
software
Possible - which side should LOAD be connected...K3S or Antenna?

K3S100/KAT100 rig with P3, P3SVGA and P3TXMON Directional Coupler 200W.
When TX at 100W, on 80m for example, the PEP on the P3 shows 2.4W PEP on the
120W scale and SWR is full scale at 99.0.
I have put a Bird43 at my antenna base and verified 64W just before the
SG-235 remote ATU on my 43ft

That alarm turned out to be my USP - the sound was hard to track down as it's
on the floor. The USP is a CyberPower CP1500PFCLCD which is giving an
Overload alarm on typically the last TX of a QSO at 100W. The specs are
Output 1500VA 900W.
