I built mine with no options, later added the KSB2 board.
Have never missed having other options, though may soon build the KPA100.
Suggest building what you've mentioned and using it for awhile.
You'll have more than enough solder melting to complete what you've mentioned.

My K1 is S/N 2258, don't remember when I built it but believe around 2007.
Would the pot wear out in 5 years? The rig isn't used that often and nearly
always inside. It has always been in air conditioned and dry conditions.

I notice the tuning pot seems to have more play than would have thought
appropriate, can't say if this has increased. The jump happens at several
particular frequencies on all bands. For example, 7055, 7130; 14055, 14130.
Manipulating connections inside the case from the port to the board has
I built a 2-band board for 12M/10M from info posted in 2006.
Receive is working fine, transmit output a little light at
1.5W on 12M and 0.8W on 10M. I haven't dropped R11 to 33ohms
yet, maybe that will boost the output. Still, made a QSO for
1/2 hour to Western NY on 12M, about 1500miles. Report
Am planning build a KFL1-2 for 12 10M using some posts from late 2005 / early
2006 as guide. Would appreciate hearing experiences of anyone else who has
tried putting a K1 on 12 or 10. 73, Curt KB5JO

So I gather the KIO2 is a requirement? I have the KSB2 installed, so will need
to install the KIO2 also?

This is probably off topic, seeing as how most topics are now K3 or KX3.
Still, just had to praise my K1...
Again, this Saturday morning, turned K1-4 s/n 2258 to 15M and started working

I built my K1 awhile ago with a VFO range of 80 kHz, also a 4 band filter and 2
band filter.
With recent increase in QRM levels on 7030-7040+-, am considering expanding the
range to 150 kHz.
This will allow me to work the old Novice segment on 40M. Seems the only
change needed is the band
LS,
I've built both the K1 and K2, but only after having constructed numerous
simpler kits. The K2 doesn't require any additional skills, there is just
about 4 times as much to build as the K1. In turn, the K1 is about 4 times as
much to construct as a simple single-band QRP rig. I
Since the KFL1-4 module allows either 17 or 15 selected at build time, I'm
wondering whether building say ??,20,1715 (leaving out 30M or 40M)is
workable. It seems to me that this ought to work fine. With sunspot count
increasing, am wishing for 4 band module more focused to the higher bands.
After my K1 had been idle for a few months, got it out this weekend for the
SKCC sprint. Surprisingly, no responses to my calls, so checked transmit
frequency with another receiver when pitch of a signal received on the K1 was
600Hz , found transmit frequency was off by about 400 Hz. Opened
I realize this is mainly a K3 list, but hope maybe another K1 owner has
encountered and solved what seems rather strange behavior. Since building the
rig nearly 2 years ago, it has worked flawlessly with one exception. Setting
the VFO to a displayed frequency, the rig holds that frequency
