[Elecraft] K2/K3 Scientific Attention to Detail
http://www.theworldlink.com/articles/2007/10/06/news/doc4707c03901b23958789121.txt The EU's decision was irresponsible and not based on sound science, said Joe Smetana, a principal engineer and tin whisker expert with French telecommunications equipment maker Alcatel-Lucent SA. We're solving a problem that isn't and creating a bunch of new ones. A good example of well-intentioned environmentalists and politicians ignoring science...the law of unintended consequences strikes again. Thank you Elecraft for staying ahead of the game (by not allowing lead-free solder use in the K2). http://www.elecraft.com/solder_sources.htm From W0YK's comments on the Sprint using two K3s in SO2R: Prior to this, with the K3 in one ear and another radio it the other ear, the K3 was strikingly better to listen with. It only sounded like the signal was in one spot because I had the AFX Binaural feature turned on. This effect was accentuated by the much lower noise component in the audio of the K3, even on 40, 80 and 160. With the K3, my brain needs to be re-trained to copy CW without the background rumble of noise and distortion and extraneous artifacts that I hear with other radios. Thank you again Elecraft for your attention to detail re IMD, BDR, Phase Noise, AGC, etc. Attention to details, using scientific metrics rather than marketing perceptions, DOES make a difference, despite what other manufacturers might have us believe. When the K3 hits full production capacity, I predict other manufacturers will wonder where their orders went. 73, Bill W4ZV ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. That's the EU in a nutshell. For another example, look at all the effort made to force Microsoft to release a version of Windows with no media player in it.
