Thanks to everyone that offered suggestions. Primarily culprit is one of the surface mount resistors on the KPA3. I won't know for sure until I take the KPA3 out next week, but I had that part fail before on my personal K3. I got the repair info from Keith WE6R and, once I can verify (or not)

Hi Dennis; What is your serial #? And please send me a picture of the part. I bet it is a feedback resistor on the KPA3, they run hot and fall off. We have upgraded beefier parts, shoot me an email when you pull the KPA3 and confirm (there are TWO of them close the Finals). The 3R3 resistor is

I've built a fair number of kits using surface mount parts, and it always annoyed me that capacitors were never marked, while resistors were. I never heard an explanation of why that was. 73, Lee, AA4GA On Mon, Jan 23, 2023, 5:32 PM Geert Jan de Groot wrote: > On 23/01/2023 22:22,

BTW, the item that was banging around in my K3s sometime after I built it was a nut with a broken piece of screw in it. I obviously over torqued it at some point, and it eventually fell off. No telling where THAT came from... 73, -- Dave, N8SBE On Mon, Jan 23, 2023 at 4:46 PM Chris Waldrup

Actually with a marking like 3K3, it's likely a 3.3K ohms surface mount resistor. Possibly from a poor soldering job on the main board. It likely passed electrical tests, but after some mechanical torque, it likely popped off of the board. 73, -- Dave, N8SBE On Mon, Jan 23, 2023 at 4:43 PM Rich
