Bill,
Check the SPKR setting in config menu. Set it to 1 if using only the
internal speaker. If using a pair of speakers plugged into the rear
speaker jack, set it for 2.

The “phones” work all the time. SPKR+PH only controls the speaker. It allows
me to operate at night without bothering the OWMBO (One who must……).
