How long is your piece of string? Depending on size, anything from 3 days to 10 days. 73 de M0XDF, K3 #174 -- For all our conceits about being the center of the universe, we live in a routine planet of a humdrum star stuck away in an obscure corner ... on an unexceptional galaxy which is one of about 100 billion galaxies. ... That is the fundamental fact of the universe we inhabit, and it is very good for us to understand that. -Carl Sagan, astronomer and writer (1934-1996) On 19 Jan 2010, at 08:17, Ken Chandler wrote: Hi elecrafters Just a quick one for UK owners, I'm expecting parts delivery from elecraft (posted on 13 jan) Via US postal service first class what's the norm for deliveries guys!!! __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Re: [Elecraft] K3 parts delivery in UK
If it is going via parcel force, after customs it has to go to their warehouse. There it will sit for up to a week. Then they will send you a letter with the charges due. Once you have paid these, including another £8 or £13 plus VAT they will send it on to you within a week or so. The penalty of living in the 3rd world I am afraid. Re: [Elecraft] K3 parts delivery in UK
Ok thanks everyone for the comments. I was afraid parcel force would raise it's ugly head! I have had past experiences with this rip-off company, I really don't know how they can get away with it. My k3 was delivered to the door by UPS who I guess had it released from customs. I paid at the door the customs VAT charges etc. QUESTION Who decides on which company handles our parcels from Elecraft once it reaches the UK!!! Is it the postal service used in the USA that determins who handles our goods, if it is, then can Elecraft use a company that goes to UPS when it hits the UK for delivery. Re: [Elecraft] K3 parts delivery in UK
Ken, A method that has worked well for me for several years is to use the tracking number given me by the US supplier of the goods, and then follow the progress of the shipment through UK Customs to Parcel Force's depot which serves this area. When the shipment is reported as reaching our local PF's depot in Perth I call the depot by 'phone quoting the tracking number, and use my bank card or credit card to settle any outstanding payment. PF then delivers the shipment on the next working day. Most of the components that I buy from the US are shipped using FedEx, chosen by the supplier(s).. 73, Geoff GM4ESD Ken Chandler g0...@sky.com wrote on Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at 9:16 AM: Ok thanks everyone for the comments. Re: [Elecraft] K3 parts delivery in UK
Ken, I am in EI land and it has been my experience that Elecraft ships larger more expensive items to EI by UPS but that if you ask, they may then send smaller items by post and it then arrives by post. I am not referring to Elecraft in this paragraph but it is not uncommon for Nevada Radio in the UK to ship by a private carrier and then have it delivered by the Irish postal service to my door. I believe some transport companies make use of local postal services to deliver the last couple of miles. In my case this is a pain in the butt as I generally have to pick up the parcel at the local post office distribution center five miles distant. In the case of EI if one ships by post then it is delivered by post but if shipped by a private firm it may still be delivered by post. 73 Doug -Original Message- From: elecraft-boun...@mailman.qth.net [mailto:elecraft-boun...@mailman.qth.net] On Behalf Of Ken Chandler Sent: 19 January 2010 09:16 To: AD6XY Cc: elecraft@mailman.qth.net Subject: Re: [Elecraft] K3 parts delivery in UK Ok thanks everyone for the comments.
