Found that out the hard way and fried a trace on the RF board.
Fortunately, it was repairable. Unfortunately, it wasn't very easy.
One of mine is now painted black [I'm colorblind]. If you have a
K2/KPA100 combo, it's easy to get the amp off, I'd do it now.

I’m with Jim on this one. I particularly like that they are hermaphroditic, so
I can not worry about which end is providing the current. Helps with battery
charging for example.
The only failures I have had is when the metal “pins” are not fully inserted in
the shell. (The curve at the end of

Better for what?
Great questions, Andrew. Banana plugs are certainly not better for
power. And not when panel real estate is limited.

Wayne,
Years ago, on my 2000 K2, I discovered that it was possible to interchange the
ATU plug to the main board with another one of the same size, with very bad
results. I applied gold paint to one of the pair in the hopes of avoiding ever
interchanging them by accident. So far, so good.

"not to mention intuitively color-coded"
"Intuitively" may work for most, not so much for those of us males whose
color vision is seriously compromised. I can tell the difference
between the black side and the not-black side if I see them together
which is almost always... electrically, I've
We've used APP connectors for over 20 years on Elecraft products. When properly
assembled and inserted they're very reliable, not to mention intuitively
color-coded. There is nothing covert about them.
I may be slightly biased by my fear of starting over with something else, with
the resulting
Sorry to flog this poor horse once more. My XT90 AMASS connector failed due to
not being completely inserted with the mate on a 52volt e-trike. It burned up
one of the conductors inside the female plug.
I have never had a failure of an Anderson powerpole in many years of using
them. It is easy
I had a PowerPole fail on me once. Dirt or corrosion on the one flat
contact.
Once was enough. Back in the day, I had standardized on double banana
plugs. In 50 years of ham radio, I NEVER had one fail on me in any way.
Only trouble with the double bananas is they're not keyed for polarity.

Just curious - can you elaborate and quantify? Bad solder joints?

Hi Brian,
Could you give a bit more detail?
You said the 'power went off on the K2' after
attempting to auto-tune the KAT100. Do you
mean the DC power went dark on the K2 and
the screen display went blank, or something
else?
Have you tried to auto-tune the KAT100

HI. Well this is weird
It appears that the Anderson power power cable failed when I went to
put it back on the K3 (where it usually is for my main rig) the K3 would
not power up!!
Measured no voltage at the rig end of the cable. Voltage was OK at power
supply output terminals.
I put on the

so I had elected to go thru my rigs here re. possible hamfests or
private sales.
First thing I decided to look at was my K2 with the amp integrated into
it and the separate KAT100 tuner connected outboard.
Things seemed fine overall and
