Dear Elecraft Friends,
Up through last weekend I had been operating my K3 #820 with MCU 4.31 and DSP
2.72, firmware that dated from March 2011. I was content with my K3’s
performance, and saw no reason to upgrade.
But Reflector reports praising recent improvements in NR and NB operation
Hi Brian,
A Heathkit GC-1000 atomic clock (if you can find one) can be DC powered.

atomic clock with a nice LED display that is DC powered.

Dear Elecraft list members,
The recent thread on noisy switching power supplies leads me to a related
question. My son n8fyk, who teaches radio astronomy, has set up a project with
his students. They are using a 15m direct-conversion Radio Jove receiver in the
field to monitor radio emissions
Thanks to all who responded to my query. At this point I plan to follow Jack
Smith's excellent recommendation to build a DC-to-DC converter based on the
LM-2591 chip and do my best with appropriate filtering to keep RFI from getting
out of the box.
I appreciate having the excellent resources
Thanks, Fred. The LMZ12001 does look attractive. The best solution may be for
me to buy their LMZ12001EVAL/NOPB evaluation board.
See http://www.national.com/pf/LM/LMZ12001.html#Boards
I will, of course, add appropriate input and output filtering.

Hi Wayne,
Is this also true of a comparison between a K3 and CW Skimmer?

Hi Kevin,
Jean and I had been in Kalamazoo and returned to Alma too late for me to check
in to ECN/20. I tried for ECN/40 and think I heard you announce the net, but
you were so buried in QRN that I could judge it was you only by the rhythm of
your sending. I tried to respond, but am not sure
and company owner was a
ham.
I have lost the owner’s manual and am looking for any literature I can find on
the charger. I especially would like to have a circuit diagram.
If you can help me, please reply off list.
Thank you.

Dear KX2 or KX3 owners,
If you own a KX2 or KX3, do you find that the built-in speakers produce sound
of sufficient loudness and good intelligibility?
I do not (yet) own one of these fine radios, so I must ask others for this
information.
Thank you and 73,

If you have instructions for the N1BYT Single Loop Receiver, would you be kind
to share them with me? Please reply off list.

Correction: I should have said that when I installed my KRX3, it was deaf
because I had overlooked the step about configuring the ROOFING filters.

Hi Wayne,
I enjoyed your 2018 Field Day report, especially the part about your solo trek
with the KX2 and the prototype 2-band, 4’ antenna.
For the KX2 with the short whip, please tell us what bands you operated on and
what you used for a counterpoise.

Hi Robert,
Your proposed speaker looks interesting. Thank you for offering it.
My need is a little different. I want to use a KX2 for portable emergency
communication, powering it directly from a 12V lithium iron phosphate (LFP)
battery. For this application I would like to power an external

Hi John, that is fantastic!! I have never experienced anything near what you
describe with a K3s or my original updated K3 SN 00069. I find that a very
narrow 200 hz CW filter works best for me in those conditions you so apply
Each Sunday evening, I use my K3 #820 to try to check into Kevin’s 20m Elecraft
CW net. Kevin in Oregon is almost 1900 miles from me in Michigan, and I succeed
only because I have a modest tri-band beam antenna at 60 ft.
Current propagation conditions make this especially challenging. Sometimes
