I had the same problem recently on both Debian and WattOS_R4 (a
low-energy use *buntu derivative) drives.
After some searching the advice I found was that it was a gnome-terminal
error, easily fixed by typing 'reset' at prompt
to reset the display, or else closing and re-opening
