To the extent I know, an external command can be attached to frame
URL/link.

But if you want to associate multiple such external commands, a menu
appears from which you have to choose the command you want.

I find this a little annoying and unnecessary.

Instead of forcing use of a menu, can't a separate hotkey be associated
with for each command? Whether one wants frame or link (or any other piece
of information) can be kept configurable in the hotkey's specification.

Something like
define hotkey F1 firefox %f (where %f may mean frame url)
define hotkey F2 opera %f
define hotkey F3 my_mailer_program_that_mails_url %l (where %l may mean
currently selected link)

or something of above sort that will somehow avoid that menu.

Is there already a way to do so? Else is it likely to come in elinks in
future?

I am using ELinks 0.12pre2

Mayuresh.
