Yes, your solution solved my problem!
Actually I prefer to have the headings' color shine through in the
column view so I can easily tell at which level they are. Just by
changing my org-column face to the following:
'(org-column ((t (:background gray80 :underline gray60
Feedback: I just tested again on org 6.03, and the line noises are
still there in the column view.
