Is there a way to get the tags and other data associated with an event before
it gets sent to the display function through appt-disp-window-function? I want
to filter the messages that get displayed based on tag data and use associated
properties, but I don't know of an easy way to get that

It should be possible to run emacs on Maemo/the n900. It's a
mostly-normal normal Debian-derived GNU/Linux system. Emacs was ported
to older versions of Maemo, and while it hasn't been ported yet, most
likely it should be soon.
