[O] create new files from capture
Is there a way to use capture to create new files? Can I fill out the name of the file, and add a date stamp, from within the capture template? I also considered creating a new headline and then exporting the subtree. The problem is that I need to have the title of the new file automatically created based upon the headline, and I can't figure out how to do this. Thanks

In particular, you *have* installed a TeX system on your machine, right? In the meantime, how about sending the .tex file itself to the list? If we can process it to pdf, then that indicts your TeX setup. If not, then your orgmode setup might be at fault. The file itself should be in the same directory that your .org file is (I think). BTW, the reason that the backtrace is not useful in this case is that we know exactly why emacs got an error: it tried to call an external program to do the processing. IOW, seeing into the emacs processing (which is what the backtrace shows) is not going to be useful: we need to see inside the tex-pdf processing instead. Matt, Thanks for your suggestions. The problem with the sparse tree is that a sparse tree will only show the headlines above the item with a deadline, it will not show the sibling headlines. For example, if I used a sparse tree on: * Fruit ** Apple *** Macintosh *** Crab DEADLINE: 2010-04-28 Wed *** Golden delicious ** Vegetable *** lettuce *** squash *** cucumber It would look like * Fruit *** Crab DEADLINE: 2010-04-28 Wed Buck On Wed, Apr 28, 2010 at 3:57 PM, Matthew Lundin m...@imapmail.org wrote: Buck Brody buckbr...@gmail.com writes: Might I ask why the sparse tree search above or a simple agenda view of deadlines is inadequate? But isn't this precisely what a sparse tree does? I.e., it highlights the relevant deadlines but preserves the context... I dug around in the source code and found a command (normally invoked by org-sparse-tree) that shows all deadlines in a file within n days (determined by a prefix argument). If you type... C-u 1 M-x org-check-deadlines ...org-mode will highlight all the deadlines in the buffer due today or past due. You could bind this to a key. Re: [Orgmode] Re: due today notification
Nick, Thanks for the suggestion. What I want is a way to know, just by looking at a headline, if it is due today. Maybe this isn't something most people care about because they keep their files unfolded most of the time, so they can see the DEADLINE property. All my tasks are kept on the third level and I don't usually keep the file unfolded past that because I wouldn't be able to see enough headlines at once. Maybe it would be best if I explain my current workflow. I use agenda to see what is due today. I then manually assign those items the A priority. For the rest of the day, whether I am in a different agenda view, or just within my main file, I can quickly see what items are due today because they have the A priority within the headline. Using a tag would work just as well. I am looking for a way to cut out this manual process. I appreciate everyone's help, but I don't want to use up a lot of peoples time because this is not that big a problem for me. I've got a lag of about three to four seconds. I know that doesn't sound like much, but it's kind of puts a kink in the workflow. I use GNU emacs on Windows. I also have cygwin installed, and I have noticed that the problem doesn't occur when using cygwin. Any ideas? For what it's worth, I've also had this problem for a while now. However, I *do* use emacs w/ cygwin: Windows XP (w/ Cygwin) GNU Emacs 23.2.1 Org-mode version 6.36trans (release_6.36.453.g0cd4) I suspect (for no particular reason other than disdain for Windows) that it is related to poor file system (NTFS) access speeds. For example, maybe org is trying to open several files to look for TODO keywords and/or tags? You may want to try profiling the code as described by Carsten in the following post: http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.emacs.orgmode/13182 That may provide additional information to show exactly where the slowdown is taking place. Re: [Orgmode] footer for latex export
Thanks. On Mon, Jul 12, 2010 at 1:57 PM, Nick Dokos nicholas.do...@hp.com wrote: Buck Brody buckbr...@gmail.com wrote: I am just getting started with LaTeX. I can't seem to figure out how to add a footer to my document. I don't think that orgmode provides built-in support for this, but it does provide mechanisms so that you can do it by hand. The most flexible header/footer package that I know of is fancyhdr by Piet van Oostrum: http://www.tex.ac.uk/tex-archive/macros/latex/contrib/fancyhdr/ which provides for 3-part headers and footers with a lot of flexibility. The PDF doc in the above directory describes it all in clear detail. Here is a (fairly rudimentary) attempt to do that in an org-mode file: --8---cut here---start-8--- #+LATEX_HEADER: \usepackage{fancyhdr} #+LATEX_HEADER: \pagestyle{fancy} \renewcommand{\headrulewidth}{0pt} \lhead{} \chead{} \rhead{} \lfoot{} \cfoot{Centered footer} \rfoot{} #+LaTeX: \thispagestyle{fancy} * Foo bar * Foo2 bar2 #+LaTeX: \newpage * Foo3 bar3 --8---cut here---end---8--- whose only effect is to replace the default centered page number by the string Centered footer. [Orgmode] org-store-link in gnus error
When using C-cl to to store a link in GNUS i am getting cannot link to a buffer which is not visiting a file. I am new to GNUS and perhaps this is related to an incorrect GNUS setup rather than any sort of org problem. Regardless, any help would be appreciated.
