Re: [O] Release 8.2.2
Bastien b...@gnu.org writes: Hi all, I've just released Org 8.2.2, a bugfix release. Thanks all for your contributions! Thank you, Bastien. Will Org 8.2.2 be merged into the development trunk of Emacs? Or, is the proper way to keep up with Org-mode through the ELPA? (Please forgive if this has been mentioned on-list already---though I try to keep up). When I updated Org by way of ELPA, I started getting backtraces like this when syncing with MobileOrg: org-refresh-category-properties: Invalid function: org-with-silent-modifications ... and forgive this, too, but I haven't been able to get new Org changes since 7.9-something.

[Orgmode] wish list: underscore
In Org files putting an underscore at each of a word begets an ugly underline that extends to the original underscores and doubles them. In Gnus mail putting an underscore at each end of a _word_ begets an expected result of underlining the word itself. I wish that Org would do that too, or at least leave it alone like say info does. ___ Emacs-orgmode mailing list Please use `Reply All' to send replies to the list. [Orgmode] remember templates
I've have tried, but gotta ask, is it possible to write a template that will prepend * mmdd to an Org file? So many of my Org files---journal, WORKSHEET(s), and so on, are written `backward' and I'd so like to do that orgamagically. ___ Emacs-orgmode mailing list Please use `Reply All' to send replies to the list. Matt Lundin m...@imapmail.org writes: I'd agree with Russell's conclusion that if one does not use an emacs mail client, then there is not much point to using BBDB. But if one uses Gnus or the like, the integration BBDB offers (e.g., automated addition of new addresses, auto-notes, TAB completion for addresses, etc.) is still difficult to surpass. Until someone codes some nice integration between an org-mode address database and emacs mail clients, switching to an org database would require one to forgo all the nice automation that BBDB offers. (Do you really want to enter all new email addresses manually in an org file?) I've found BBDB to be incredibly convenient. But I use Gnus for email. If I were using Gmail or Thunderbird or Mutt, I wouldn't use BBDB at all. I do not like the telephone and BBDB eases the displeasure. I guess it's the same with writing checks and addressing envelopes. So I keep important phone numbers and addresses at my fingertips with BBDB and all Internet related business in my Gmail Contacts and Labels. Gnus I use for reading news. ___ Emacs-orgmode mailing list Remember: use `Reply All' to send replies to the list. Emacs-orgmode@gnu.org http://lists.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo/emacs-orgmode
[Orgmode] org manual - section 2.8
I got tripped up by, 2.8 Plain lists === Within an entry of the outline tree, hand-formatted lists can provide additional structure. They also provide a way to create lists of checkboxes (*note Checkboxes::). Org supports editing such lists, and the HTML exporter (*note Exporting::) parses and formats them. Org knows ordered lists, unordered lists, and description lists. * _Unordered_ list items start with `-', `+', or `*'(1) as bullets. * _Ordered_ list items start with a numeral followed by either a period or a right parenthesis, such as `1.' or `1)'. * _Description_ list items are like unordered list items, but contain the separator ` :: ' to separate the description _term_ from the description. ... this last item contains the phrase `are like'; wouldn't it read clearer, * _Description_ list items are unordered list items, and contain the separator ` :: ' to separate the description _term_ from the description. ___ Emacs-orgmode mailing list Remember: use `Reply All' to send replies to the list. [Orgmode] Re: Documentation wishlist items
Ethan ethan.glasser.c...@gmail.com writes: Thanks for the mail Ethan. I approached Org ... I don't know, a few years ago having really really taken advantage of Outline. I promptly made a mess, trying things I thought I needed to and went back to Outline and organization that was natural to me. The experience helped me formulate goals and I came back to Org only weeks ago armed with fairly precise ideas. The fundamental problem is that org-mode isn't a planner, it isn't an organizer. It's a toolkit full of tools which people use differently, in lots of ways, to build their own planner/organizer. To understand org-mode, you have to understand all of the tools available, and the options you have for each, and the ways they interact with the other tools. Nah, to understand what Org can do for me, I needed to understand myself and my limitations. In my opinion, the documentation doesn't explore the interactions well enough, it doesn't present the tools in an order that is conducive to learning, and it never explains why you might choose one option of tool instead of another. Right. That documentation has evolved in the little time I've been reading it. It does explain, and so does this list that the fundamental ... um, primary action is to quickly Capture. That's how I came to Org this time---getting a ~/.notes file going. Capturing fleeting thoughts and appending them to that file and then discerning what and how to organize them. [...] I wish I could offer more concrete improvements in the form of patches and so on! Maybe as I learn more about org-mode I can do this too, but I wanted to offer this criticism while it was still fresh in my mind. ... [Orgmode] longlines, wrap, auto-fill
I recently switched to Org-Mode---haven't used it in three years as I had wanted to get back to the simplicity of Outline Mode. Now I think I know how to keep it simple in Org-Mode Anyway, something that bugs me is that when I hit SPC or RET, auto-fill is effected but I'm left out in columns in the middle of the text as opposed to column 0 at the left edge of my emacs window. Is this a longlines versus wrap thing---pardon my ignorance on this, I did however look through the Org manual---and I need to put something in my dotemacs?
