Well at least I could try the commands, thanks a lot for that!

So in my understanding thiese reschedule the event for the previous/next
day and I assume that the prefix argument can be used to reschedule by a
different number of days.

I indeed remember having seen these commands!
The thing is that I am using emacs in the Linux console where these
bindings do not work, so I couldn't try them. Is there a way to bind
them to different key bindings? I am asking becuase I assume the
bindings you mention are specific to the agenda view and the way to
modify them is thus different from ordinary, global bindings. Am I
correct?

I shall thy these! Thanks!

Thanks. Will do, but usually columns are not very handy for me -- I'm
blind and using a braille terminal. In such a context linearity matters
quite a lot.

Yes, that worked, thanks!

To go back to the other window (the agenda view) I used C-x o and that
worked but the agenda view had not been updated and it didn't get
updated when I then pressed 'o' to close other windows. IS that the
expected behaviour? Somehow I'd like that the agenda view gets refreshed
automatically at some point, if that's possible?

Thanks again Eric, it does help!

I tried and it worked, thanks! Does this leave the agenda view and you
then return to it as you enter it the fiirst time, e.g. C-c a a ?

Is there a way to return to the agenda view exactly where one was when
pressing enter?

Editting from the agenda view

2019-11-22 Thread Shérab
Dear all,

Apologies for what's probably a totally dumb question but I am unable to
find the answer although I did read the doc.

When I am in an agenda view, say the weekly view, how can I edit one of
the listed entries? I may want to do that either because I notice I have
made a typo that I would like to fix, or because I would like to
re-schedule the entry for another date.

Which workflow should I use to achieve this?

Many thanks in advance for your help for this feature I am very much
interested in,

Shérab.

Re: [O] Exporting in html with numeric references to headlines

2019-07-16 Thread Shérab
Dear Bruno and Nick,

Many thanks to both of you for having taken the time to respond to my
question.

Actually, my initial problem was in a larger document. There the links
didn't work but I now think it was because I did something wrong. When
writing to the list I wrote the toy example I sent and there, things
seemingly didn't work but for the reason you both pointed out, namely
that the document was too short. I did look at the generated HTML but
not properly enough, I am really sorry about the trouble.

Everything works fine now.

Thanks again for your kind assistance,

Shérab.

[O] Exporting in html with numeric references to headlines

2019-07-15 Thread Shérab
Dear all,

Assume the following document:

===

#+title: test1

* Introduction

Monads will be explained in chapter [[#monads]]

* Monads
  :PROPERTIES:
  :CUSTOM_ID: monads
  :END:

Welcome to the monads chapter.

===

When I export this to html, the paragraph in the introduction says:

Monads will be explained in chapter 2

with "2" being a link, which is what I am expecting. However the link
does not work and it seems the "#monads" anchor is actually not created.
I can also observe that the links in the table of contents do not seem
to work either.
Am I doing something wrong? I also tried different variations with
<> but was not able to make anything work.

Many thanks in advance for any hint!

Shérab.

I will experiment with these solutions, thanks!

I have to say I am kind of surprised that people do not seem to
encounter this issue and I am thus wondering what their workflow is.

One possibility would be that org-mode sets up a hook to expand all the
subtrees prior to running the spellcheck and then restores the
previous state once spell checking is done. Would this seem reasonable?
And if so, would it seeem a doable thing?

Thanks,

Shérab.

[O] Problem while spell-checking an Org document

2019-07-04 Thread Shérab
Dear friends,

I have started to write a reference manual for a tool using Org.

When I run ispell on it, I would expect that the subtree containing an
error gets expanded but that does not seem to be the case. As far as I
can tell, point remains on the root title of the subtree containing the
error and that subtree remains folded. I did lookup the documentation
for both org-mode and ispell in emacs but couldn't find the response,
neither could I solve the problems by looking up the Internet.

Any help would thus be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks in advance,

Shérab.

[O] Compact timestamps?

2018-11-26 Thread Shérab
Dear all,

Currently my org-agenda-prefix-format contains this:

((agenda . " %?:t %s")

In the agenda view, this leads to an itme being displayed like:

  18:00..: My appointment

I'd like to aovid the ".." used to pad the timestamp becuase I am
using a braille display so compact output matters much more to me than
vertical alignment.

I din't find any way to achieve this.

Many thanks for any hint!

Re: [O] Adding an item to the agenda from the agenda view

2018-03-09 Thread Shérab
Dear all,

Many, many thanks for all your responses!

I tried the diary one which seemed like the simplest to set-up. It
indeed adds an entry, but in a strange way:it adds a level 1 headingfor
the year, a level 2 heading for the month, a level 3 heading for the day
and a level 4 heading for the event, that has the actual time-stamp.

I guess it's not very important e.g. if you never read the agenda file
itself but I may still prefer the capture solution which as I understand
it requires a bit more customization but also brings greater
flexibility.

Thanks again for all the solutions you guys provided!

Shérab.

Re: [O] Adding an item to the agenda from the agenda view

2018-03-06 Thread Shérab
Dear all,

Many thanks for your responses.

So as I understand it,there are two ways to achieve what I am trying to
do: either through diary, or through capture.

I am not sure which I should choose, though.

Since it seems my initial message was somehow unclear, let me try to
explain what I am trying to achieve again.

I have only one agenda file, ~/gtd/agenda.org.

It consists of only headings with active timestamps.

When I want to schedule a dinner with John, what I currently do is:

1. C-c a a

2. Look for a date

3. (say I find that April 1st isalright)

4. quit the agenda view

5. Visit the buffer corresponding to ~/gtd/agenda.org

6. Go to the end of that buffer with M->

7. Add a heading like
* Dinner with John

8. Use C-c . to add the date, 1 apr

I am fine with steps 1 to 3 but would like to do steps 4 to 8 in a much
more efficient way, without having to re-enter the date, but with the
same result,i.e. the heading being added atthe endo of ~/gtd/agenda.org

Do I make more sense this time?

Thanks again for you help!

Shérab.

[O] Adding an item to the agenda from the agenda view

2018-03-04 Thread Shérab
Dear org-mode friends,

I use currently only one agenda file. Sometimes, when I need to plan for
something, I check the agenda
views to find a day when I am available to do that thing. Once I have
found this day in the view, I would like to add an item with the
corresponding date to my agenda file. What would be the most direct /
straightforward / idiomatic way to achieve this, please?

I read section 10.5 in the manual and the closest thing I could find was
k to capture, but I think even this is not doing exactly what I am
looking for.

Many thanks in advance for your help!

Shérab.
