I don't know.  Maybe try toc:2?  There's a whole section on TOC in the
org manual.

I find them very useufl for that purpose.  YMMV, of course! :-)

I'm sure that patches to the manual would be welcome.  Links to
supporting documentation would probably be good.

for the other headlines).  Also, is this restriction about limiting text
to level 2+ headlines mentioned in the Org manual.  I also think it
would be good for the Org manual to reference Beamer and Latex manuals
(via a link) to help people know where to dig for more information.

Sections are semantic information that allow you to group frames.  Some
themes will show the section on each slide.  You are not meant to have
text outside frames, however.

So, for org, top level headlines (in your example) can be used to group
frames but you should ensure that all text appears below second level
headlines.

Ok.  So, what is the difference between a section and a frame as far as
Beamer is concerned?  In particular, in my example below, the generated
slides for the Intro* headers just look wrong. The Introduction is
mentioned in TOC, but it's combined with the Intro2 slide (which is also
level 1). Is there a bug here?

Also, isn't :noexport: inherited by children?

They are not ignored: they define sections in the LaTeX.  If you want
the section ignored, add the :noexport: tag to the headline?
