Can't isearch 'ö'

Hello! In a text buffer starting with ;;; -*- mode: Emacs-Lisp; coding: iso-8859-15; -*- I have a line (message konventionell-römisch) which I can't find with C-s ö. It's always Failing I-search: ö. In GNU Emacs 22.0.50.1 (powerpc-apple-darwin7.8.0, X toolkit, Xaw3d scroll

How do you input the ö? I just press the 'Ö' key on my keyboard! The problem is that the ö you type at the isearch prompt is a latin-1 ö whereas the one in the buffer is a latin-9 ö (Emacs's internal representation of characters has such duplicates). Try M-x unify-8859-on-decoding-mode RET
