When looking at a dired buffer, you can type `+' to make a directory. Normally, the newly-created directory is listed immediately. But in rcp dired buffers, it shows the name `.' rather than the right directory name. Try it: type C-x d to open an rcp dired buffer, then type `+' to create a new directory.
