Hi Group,
I am working with a client where we have an EMC lab that has ISO 17025
approvals. We need to get a few products certified by RRA for EMC. Does anyone
gone through the process of getting a product directly certified rather than
going through 3rd party labs?
What is the process? how

I have a question that I was hoping you could assist me withthe answer or point
me to where I may be able to get the answer.
We have been told by a couple of NRTL that the new requirementsfrom EU
concerning external power supplies energy efficiency have been changed as

Hello Group,
Can soneone let me know where in the US (West Coast preferred) I can test and

does anyone knows if IEEE 802.3 AF has superseded the AT type 1 or not please?

John and all, thank you for a great feedback. The follow-up question is that
how about products that are sold outside consumer market and basically are sold
to professional market where their use and installation are done by
professionals. These types of products are not available through
Hello All,
Today a colleague asked me a question as to why do we need NRTL certification
such as UL or CSA on any product in the US. I thought this was a good and
logical question and the way I answered it was that to the best of my
knowledge, OSHA requires that any products that is used in

Hello Group,
Has anyone got a brief document that outlines how to design PCB to have a
better EMC/EMI performance? I basically need to give some basic guideline to
our PCB guy . I know some of it myself. Things such as separation of high
frequency from low frequency, good ground plane, etc.
Dear Colleagues,
I appreciate if you could help me with my problem please. We use PC power
supply in our control machine for feeding our motherboard. The end product is
intended for EU. I am unable to locate a PC power supply with PFC and all the
vendors that I have approached say to me it is
Hello All,
I have been told by a customer that there are PFC filter available commercially
off the shelf just like the EMI filter that I can buy and put it in front of my
power supply and the PFC filter will cure most of the harmonic problems. Is
this ture? If so can anyone let me have some
Hello group,
Could someone explain the followings to me please?
1-When to use DC hipot test in place of AC tester.
2-What are the advantages and disadvantages of AC or DC hipot tester?i.e
comparing the two.
3-Is the leakage current trip setting different on AC DC tester?
Many thanks

Doug,
I have used DC-DC power supply with the AC fuse on the PSU in our products
many times and have never heard such a saga from an agency. The PSU report
will certainly have C of A and in addition to that almost all test houses
when testing DC-Dc power supply which is fitted with AC fuse,
Brent,
I fully agree with you on your assumption. I think that Tania perhaps
misunderstood your question. You can have as many amendment to the original
CB report as you like. The main thing is that when sending the report to a
customer or to another agency, you must ensure that the original

Hello All,
Thank you for all your responds. Perhaps I should have made my question a bit
more clearer. Basically what I am looking for is the list of other safety
related standards other than 950 that are applicable to any ITE. i.e is 950
the only standard or are there others as well?

Brian,
I think that you would be able to use a bench type DC power supply which is
cable of delivering 100A at low voltage of 12V. Standard does specify AC or
DC current. This way, you don't have to have an specific ground tester.
Almost all companies have DC power supply that can be used for
John,
I don't think that you will be able to find many off the shelf PC type power

to keep the cost down, they manufacturers of the PC power supplies avoid PFC
which automatically bring the universal input anyway. I
Hello All,
I have been given a DC-DC switch mode power supply that uses 48V DC input to
test for both emissions and immunity. Can someone let me know if I am correct

feeding AC, I can feed 48V DC into the
Jim,
Let me thank you for your detailed input on this issue. Up to now I was alway

for my portable TV)inverters for my camping holidays from a
