Hello Jim, as the first two paragraphs of clause F.5 begin with "unless otherwise specified", I presume that clause 8.5.2 takes precedence and that you may only use symbol IEC60417-6056 for moving fan blades and IEC 60417-6057 for other moving parts. However, you may use in addition as "element 2" a text that identifies the moving part. So, in your example you may choose to use symbol IEC 60417-6057 for other moving parts and add the text "Moving rubber belt!" to comply with the standard.
Kind regards, Bernd Von: Jim Hulbert <jim.hulb...@bluecrestinc.com> Gesendet: Donnerstag, 25. Juni 2020 21:31 An: EMC-PSTC@LISTSERV.IEEE.ORG Betreff: [PSES] EN/IEC 62368-1 Instructional Safeguards EMC-PSTC group, This question is in regard to EN/IEC 62368-1 instructional safeguards. In section 8.5.2, instructional safeguard requirements for moving parts, the symbol for element 1a "shall be" IEC60417-6056 for moving fan blades and IEC 60417-6057 for other moving parts. Suppose the moving part is something like a rubber belt and these symbols do not convey that? Now if I look at the standard Clause F.5 for instructional safeguards, it describes element 1a in Table F.1 more generally as a symbol that identifies the nature of the class 2 or class 3 energy source and the consequences that can be caused by the energy source. It further states that symbols for element 1a shall be from IEC 60417, ISO 3864-2, ISO 7000, ISO 7010 or the equivalent. My question then, is it permissible to select a symbol from the IEC/ISO standards, other than the symbols specified in section 8.5.2, that clearly the identifies the nature of the moving part or energy source? In other words can I ignore the "shall be" part of 8.5.2 and select a more appropriate symbol from the IEC/ISO standards? This same question applies to instructional safeguards for other energy sources, as well. Thank you.
