Final notice for our last event of the year, in London. Best wishes Brian IEEE Event Notice. IEEE Electromagnetic Compatibility Society UKRI Chapter. http://ieee-ukri.org/electromagnetic-compatibility-emc27/?postTabs=1 You are invited to attend the forthcoming morning AGM and/or afternoon open technical event to be held at: University of Westminster http://www.wmin.ac.uk/ 115 New Cavendish Street , W1W 6UW, Central London. On Wednesday December 14th 2011. Morning AGM meeting. Room location: Classroom CG.02 Time: 10:30 - 12:00 Agenda, listed in detail below. Afternoon open technicalevent. Room location: Classroom C2.15 Time 13:20 - 16:45 Afternoon Meeting Agenda. 13:20 - 13:30 Welcome. Paul Vertannes, Alcatel-Lucent. 13:30 - 14:00 EMC issues with high speed rubidium based clock. Dr. Yacine Adane, Applied DSP & VLSI Research Group University of Westminster. 14:00 - 14:45 Gigabit LVDS Signalling on a PCB Assisted by Simulation and S-Parameter Modelling. Ivor Catt 16:45 Finish Après-meeting. The meeting will be followed by optional Après-meeting networking at a London pub: King & Queen, 1 Foley Street, W1W 6DL, less than 1 min from the University of Westminster and 5 min from Goodge St tube. It is in the Good Beer Guide 2010. More detailsat the meeting. Information available on afternoon talks and speakers: Gigabit LVDS Signalling on a PCB Assisted by Simulation and S-Parameter Modelling. John Berrie. John Berrie, is a specialist in high-speed digital PCB design and has a Master of Science degree in digital electronics and software from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh. His current Technology Partner role with Zuken is as: EDA product architect, educator, presenter, author, design consultant, focusing on high-speed digital design. In his presentation John will describe the key requirements of reliable LVDS (Low Voltage Differential Signalling) in PCB (Printed Circuit Board) layout for PCI Express, HyperTransport and other fast-signalling standards. LVDS often employs filters that can be modelled by S-Parameters. This presentation includes a crystal-clear introduction to S-Parameter models, followed by simulation of an LVDS data channel. Interference from LED lighting. Peter Metcalfe. Peter Metcalfe is an Honours graduate in electronics and has over thirty years' lecturing experience in analogue and digital electronics and communications systems. He has been a qualified, active Radio Amateur for over forty years, with all the RFI experience this entails. He was responsible for the design, construction and management of the Sussex Euro Compliance Group facility. This presentation will be part talk and part simple demonstration of the interference that can be caused by (some) LED lighting. Moreover, the level of emissions can vary significantly depending on the test (or operating) conditions. Advances in Electromagnetic Theory. Ivor Catt. Ivor Catt. Published "The Catt Concept" and "Computer Worship", on politics in hi tec industry. He has lectured and published on censorship in science. A Cambridge Engineer, he invented the only successful approach to Wafer Scale Integration. He has studied and published on Electromagnetic Theory for fifty years. Has just stumbled on a patentable way to increase the data rate of USB. This talk will present Ivors views on electromagnetic theory and will undoubtedly be a stimulating and thought-provoking presentation. Ivor would like to have an interactive debate with the audience. Fifty years ago, Ivor Catt pioneered the interconnection of high speed logic at Motorola in Phoenix. The high speed pulse played havoc with classical Electromagnetic Theory. This has not influenced text books or university courses, which ignore digital electronics. For a background to the talk please visit http://www.ivorcatt.co.uk/x111.htm The afternoon event is an open meeting, with all welcome. There is no charge for attendance. If you plan to attend you need to register by informing: Roy Ediss Email; roy.ed...@ieee.org For registration you will need to provide: Name, Company, (if applicable), Book early for the afternoon meeting to avoid disappointment.
