He is a TCB for the FCC, an FCB for Industry Canada and a Notified Body for the R&TTE and EMC Directives. Michael is an active member of the R&TTECA and TCB Council. He is the liaison between the two organizations and is the Chairman of the TCB Council Board of Directors. Michaels past experience includes product development, testing and certification for test laboratories and manufacturers. Jonathan Harros obtained his Bachelors Degree with Honours and a Diploma in Engineering. He worked for a number of engineering companies prior to obtaining a lecturing and research role at the University of Hull (England) within the Department of Electronic Engineering, and joined KTL in 1995. Jonathan has actively participated in various technical working groups for a number of Alliances and Forums, including the Broadband Forum, the Continua Alliance and the ZigBee Alliance. He is the current Chairman of the ZigBee Retail Services (ZRS) Group, holds the post of Technical Editor for the ZigBee Qualification Group (ZQG), is a member of the ZigBee Architecture Review Committee (ZARC) and is one of the eight members of the ZigBee Expert Panel for the ZigBee Alliance. In addition, Jonathan was appointed a Continua Certification Expert (CCE) and has held the Chairmanship of the CCE Group within the Continua Alliance. Jonathan frequently gives presentations at the Annual European ZigBee Developers Conference and is a regular contributor of articles to Incisor Magazine. Jonathan currently holds the post of ZigBee Business Manager for TRaC Global Ltd (Hull) ZigBee is a low power wireless protocol, which uses the IEEE 802.15.4 radio specification for its physical and MAC layers. In order for a product to be categorised as making use of ZigBee and display the ZigBee logo, it must satisfy the certification requirements stipulated by the ZigBee Alliance, which apply to the specific ZigBee implementation. In addition to the certification requirements, a product must also comply with regulatory specifications that are a legal requirement in order to place a product in a given market. This presentation provides an overview of the ZigBee certification process, and then covers the typical regulatory areas that must be considered, including radio, safety and EMC requirements. These requirements are dependent on the end product that contains the ZigBee technology and the geographic market in which the product is to be placed. Brian Jones is an independent EMC consultant. For six years he was EMC Consultant to the UK Government's Business Department and for ten years was secretary to the CENELEC EMC Committee TC210. Since February of this year he has been the New Approach Directive Consultant for the EMC Directive, advising the European Commission on EMC matters. He is speaking today in a purely personal capacity. Brian will update us on progress or otherwise in some EMC and standardisation issues. Expect to hear about Digital Dividend (reuse of UHF TV spectrum for mobile services), emissions and immunity in the frequency range below 150 kHz (effects on smart metering and smart grid communication), arc welding, and of course Power Line Communication. Keith Armstrong graduated in electrical engineering with a B.Sc (Hons.) from Imperial College London in 1972, majoring in analogue circuit design and electromagnetic field theory, and achieved Upper Second Class Honours (Cum Laude). Much of his working life until 1990 involved solving real-life interference problems in high-technology products, systems, and installations, for a variety of companies and organisations in a wide range of industries. Keith has always aimed to make products easy to design and manufacture, work properly, please their users, and make money for their manufacturers. In the mid-1980s he ran the project to develop an entirely new range of microwave test instruments (the 6200 series) for Marconi Instruments, as well as being in charge of all of its hardware design. Keith has been a Chartered Electrical Engineer (UK) since 1978, a Group 1 European Engineer since 1988, and has written and presented a great many papers on EMC and on EMC for Functional Safety. He is a past chairman of the IEEs Professional Group (E2) on Electromagnetic Compatibility, a member of the IEEEs EMC and Product Safety Societies, chairs the IETs Working Group on 'EMC and Functional Safety', and is the UK expert appointed to the IEC 61000-1-2 (EMC and Functional Safety) maintenance team.
