Everyone Those involved with the supply of telecom network equipment in Europe will have been surprised to see that in the list of harmonised standards under the EMC Directive published in the Official Journal on 9 March 2002, on page C62/14, there is no "date of cessation of conformity of the superseded standard" (doc) shown for EN 300 386:2000. The implication is that the 2000 edition is applicable immediately. The 1997 edition of EN 300 386-2 is also missing from this list.
The previous EMC standards listing in the OJEC of 5 April 2001 showed, on page C105/30, the standard EN 300 386:2000 with the "doc" 31 May 2003. This meant that the 1997 edition of the earlier standard EN 300 386-2 could be used until that date. Since there has been no other indication of the change, I checked with the European Commission via the Department of Trade and Industry in the UK. The Commission has confirmed that this is indeed an error, and it will be corrected in the next list to be published in the Official Journal, expected in July. The listing on the Commission's website http://europa.eu.int/comm/enterprise/newapproach/standardization/harmstds/re flist/emc.html has been corrected. So the 1997 edition of EN 300 386-2 can still be used under the standards route until 31 May 2003.
