I've already cobbled up a linear using the old control transformer for a
bunch of braking relays I used to have on the lathe. And one of those
relays, will control a bucket max sucking up the wooden swarf. The jig
motor reversing relay works, and about /12 the box is assembled, but my
back & legs have petered out for a while, plus there's several items
under clamping pressure, sitting in puddles of clear RTV. And that
needs to cure so I can handle it a bit less tenderly.

That braking assembly also will yield 2 more hexfet's, switching some
dpdt ice cubes with a pair of 10 amp contacts, one of which will now
control a shop vac "bucket max", which will be sucking up most of the
dust I'll be making, but will run it thru a home-made cyclone separator,
the parts to make it being pulled from a bin or 5 at Lowes if I feel
like going over this evening after I see about rustling up some grub for
us. Its already coded into the hal file and the code works for the two
functions I've tied to the axis left panels mist and flood checkboxes,
or for the usual M7-8-9 codes.

All I need is the back to finish it, but with both functions, maybe
Sunday/Monday for a smoke test.

And amazingly, another item I had ordered from Amazon, 2 more roundover
bits, just reached out and grabbed my hand when I stuck it in the
mailbox just now.

Thanks Jon.

Cheers, Gene Heskett

Did you put quotation marks around the "24 volt"? If it is entered as just
words with no quotes you also get everything with "24" in the description.
That includes "24 watt", "240 volt", etc. I just did it ebay.ca with the
quotes and got 25 hits all of which are appropriate.

[Emc-users] Amazon playing tricks?

2015-10-03 Thread Gene Heskett
Hi All;

I still have a minute to say good morning. :)
That order from amazon I was expecting today? I just got a cancel
notice, product unavailable.

But when I go back to look for a substitute, the same guy has them listed
twice yet, 3 on one listing and 4 on another, for slightly different
prices.

That will also cancel my amazon prime but all I wanted was the free
shipping, and I'd bet a case of suds that is the real reason.

So I go to fleabay, and their search engine sends me 4 damned pages of 12
volt supplies for a search term of "24 volt switching power supply".
All at 2-5x the amazon prices.

So, since I do have a F-F db25 gender changer although its 3 inches long
and a connector destroyer if it gets bumped, I guess I demolish a box of
braking stuff I built for the lathe & only used a couple months before I
discovered Jon's pwm servo amp, which simplicates the heck out of that
project. I'm pretty sure there's a transformer in it that will do the
job with a cap input filter...

Damn I hate being lied to by amazon. But the box I have started to make
does have room for a linear home-made supply if the transformer is the
one I think it is.

Humm, don't you just love it when every site with a search engine uses
different rules for their regex? I wasn't aware of that, thank you very
much Ken.

But its esentially moot now, I've pieced out an old braking controller
for the lathe, and have enough parts to get the job done, including
controlling a vacuum cleaner with the axis "flood" checkbox.

I still have to make some of it, my back has petered out for a few hours
ATM.

For small power supplies, MP Jones used to be the best.
They are still quite good. You can also check Jameco.
