Re: [Emc-users] Tormach co-founder, Greg Jackson, obituary
Here it is ... you are right he was tethered and had a life jacket on... but they were in 8 foot waves! I had no idea that the water was that rough. That would be a very rough ride at the bow.So he was likely being pushed into the waves, while hanging from the tether and it would be easy to take in a lot of water. That's just a really bad situation. From the pictures it looks like his roller furler may have jammed as someone pulled down the headsail instead of furling the sail on the roller furler. http://fox6now.com/2015/07/15/racine-fire-officials-elderly-man-found-unresponsive-on-sailboat-on-lake-michigan-taken-to-the-hospital/ A couple of years ago two guys died trying to move a 35+ foot sailboat from one marina to another in 9-10 ft waves in Chicago. One guy went over the side and another went in trying to save the first and they both died. This is a tough call- without a tether his boat could have been a long way away before he was missed, with a tether he could have been beaten against the boat or dragged through seas. Sorry about the subject line, the auto-correct on my phone snuck up on me, corrected mis-spelling above. Loss of a founder can sometimes be the demise of a small company. It is good to hear that Greg Jackson did what was needed to allow Tormach to continue into the future. -Tom On Jul 22, 2015, at 6:50 AM, sam sokolik sa...@empirescreen.com wrote: sounds like they are in good hands http://www.tormach.com/blog/greg-jackson-1952-2015/?utm_source=blogutm_medium=emailutm_campaign=postnotifyutm_id=6073utm_title=Greg+Jackson%2C+1952-2015 sam On 07/21/2015 09:35 PM, Gene Heskett wrote: On Tuesday 21 July 2015 22:19:12 Tom Easterday wrote: http://www.cressfuneralservice.com/obituary/138699/Greg-Jackson//?post _id=3D= Thanks Tom. http://journaltimes.com/news/local/lake-michigan-drowning-tragic-accident/article_d2aa217d-cd0e-5e4f-aa7b-18615469fe1e.html That is sad. As a fellow sailor on the Great Lakes, it is easy to see how this could happen at night when he was going to the bow of the boat to tend a sail. I wonder if he left off his PFD/life jacket since he had a friend on the boat?Or perhaps he simply hit his head as he went overboard. That said, sailing at night is really, really nice.
