Update:
Rather excitingly I put the steps into an efler script and re-ran the
install that way. On the same machine the apps now start fast again :)

problem, but I could not pinpoint what
Looking at a debugger the slowness seems to be deep in libfontconfig

I have fixed some docs and the OpenSSL thing was fixed. Text appears on one
machine but not another.
The one with text gets a lot of dbus errors and is very slow to start apps
- but again I suspect it's my setup and I'm looking further.

release of our 1.18.x branch.
If I hear nothing problematic within the next 24 hours, I will do the
