Re: [E-devel] Bryce vs Shelf, bryce needs lots of refinement

2018-04-19 Thread Mike Blumenkrantz
Unfortunately, the change which caused this issue broke all "new"
configurations created since 1 April 2018. If your configuration was
created on or after that date, you will need to completely wipe your config
(settings->profiles->scratch) in order for the issue to resolve itself
completely.

Great! So it was not broken due to focus related issues. I should have
replied sooner. I had this drafted for some time, but never sent.

Thank you for looking into that and fixing!

Turns out most recently a configuration change that was committed broke a
lot of things with the gadget bar and gadgets (bryce has been renamed to
gadget bar). I fixed that this morning.

Not sure if anyone tried the following. Despite saying do not log out.
I added a bryce bar. I logged out. I logged back in. Now anywhere I
right click I get a context menu. Including over default menu.

Not sure if that is focus related or not. It only effects the just
added Bryce bar it seems. Maybe some initialization issue.
That was my biggest gripe with usability. Which seems to only exist
when you first add a bryce bar, per the following steps.

Sure not knocking it, just general feedback. At least know I can use it
so I can update like Clipboard to the new API. It was unstable in 22.1
at least for me. I could not use it at all. Its stable in 22.2.

My understanding as a release manager and distro packager is that bryce
isn't done yet for e22, its just there as a work in progress which is
one of the main reasons its not in by default. Hopefully the version in
e23 will be more feature complete.

What if you have no wheel? Hold and scroll?

That maybe difficult to get 2 systems to be the same size without a
fixed measurement. Though if a dimensions popup shows up, that is fine.
Like you get when re-sizing windows.

It was not in the list, but I did disable one of the clock
gadgets/modules. Maybe that was the bryce clock I disabled... oops...
Thanks for confirming it should be there :)

It maybe a focus issue, not sure. I would be curious if others can
replicate the same issue.

1. Add a bryce bar
2. Remove all gadgets
3. Right click on empty bar

Do you get anything when you right click on empty bryce bar?

Do not log out or restart E. It seems to effect just added bryce bars.
If no one else can replicate. Maybe specific to me, old
settings/config, etc. If it can be replicated, it maybe a focus issue
not sure. I think those steps should replicate the issue.

I totally agree on this one, all the features should be reachable without
using any key-combo, that are indeed usefull, but only as shortcut, not as
the only way to do things.

Oddly enough after restarting E, I can right click on bryce bar and get
a context menu for wizard, gadgets, remove, etc. Seems maybe some issue
there when it is first added that right click does not work. Not till
restart of E and/or log out/in.
