Update:

Rather excitingly I put the steps into an efler script and re-ran the
install that way. On the same machine the apps now start fast again :)

Dbus errors are "easy" to fix, but fontconfig is a bit random... On
some configurations it is perfect, on others (mine at the moment) it
is crap. Takes forever to start. I guess that's a configuration
problem, but I could not pinpoint what is wrong :/

The one with text gets a lot of dbus errors and is very slow to start apps
- but again I suspect it's my setup and I'm looking further.

Looks good to me from a compile and run perspective.
I had some complications with CFLAGS for OpenSSL and when it runs I get no
text at all - but I think those are local issues...

actually there is a big bug with osx semaphores that is still there.
It is a regression that I was almost sure was introduced after the
1.18 release, but it appears I was wrong, and it already landed in
1.18.
When building a lot (e.g. running plenty of edje_cc) nasty things
happen, edje_cc segfaults, everything goes wrong when evas cannot
create thread queues.
And when I tested the homebrew receipe with a self-packaged 1.18.1, of
course it did not show up then...

there are two more patches to backport to overcome this :/
