It seems that the resize by key-binding has a bug.
Apparently, when one resizes by X Y, then if Y0, it doesn't use Y but
max(0, Y-10).
With negative values of Y it works fine.
I haven't look at the code, I'm just trying to surmise my experiencing
with it.

Well, you should try it then :) Don't maximize oo, just resize it and then
make e17 remember the size. (if you haven't tried this already)

You can use the Bling module for E. It does drop shadows and opacity
transitions.
