Dan - It's not bling causing the problem. I've had the exact same
problem before, and I've never used
the bling module.
Some history here... When I first installed e17 on this machine,
everything worked fine. Then I did an update, and
got this problem where e17 won't load from Entrance. I
I'm curious... is there any way to get the new application menu handling
(the favorites.menu XML file) to behave as the old (folder) method did?
Since I had my favorite menu structure set up long before e was able to
handle .desktop files, I am quite used to being able to right click on

Why are the enlightenment_remote commands removed anyways? Personally, I

So, to make this clear at last ... ;-)
it is true that one has to use external apps like
trayer, fbpanel or pypanel to achieve systray support within e17?
yes.
Open a terminal (as Massimo suggested, ctrl+alt+insert) and check your
~/.e/e/applications/menu/all folder and see if any .eap files are

gedit, kwrite,
I just did an update this morning,
and for the life of me I can't get the apps to show up on the menus.
My favorite menu simply says "no application", my iBar is empty, yet my
applications/all folder is intact, as before, and the appropriate
.order files are fine as well. Any ideas anyone?
Thanks, I'll have to remember that. I only updated my laptop a short
while back and it still uses the old format, so that's what I've been
used to... I'll have to back up the config on it and update it as well.
