something to do with how my .bash_profile was source .bashrc. Keep in
mind that this is only a guess, but that was the only change I made

Are you sure that you are looking at Settings/Settings Panel/Input/Keyboard
and not the Settings/Settings Panel/Language tab?

it would seem all the xkb layout locations the xkb code looks for done have
data on osx for u... e_mod_parse.c in /src/m
