Don't know. Tried everything, all the suggestions and hints from googling,
reinstalling everything from svn, at 63455 now. Elsa starts, can't type in user
name but can select it from the user list, can't type in password. Can reboot
etc from Elsa.

I found that there was a /usr/local/etc/pam.d/elsa file. e17 is installed here

I copied /etc/pam.d/gdm to /etc/pam.d/elsa but still had same effect. Then I
copied /etc/pam.d/gdm-autologin to /etc/pam.d/elsa-autologin, same result. Any
changes required to the files?

elsa. Google hits hint that this might be a PAM issue that's still not resolved?

/etc/init.d/elsa file, elsa was up and running. But I'm not able to login. I
can select the user name and session, the clock works, but the password field
stays blank, and the password icon appears greyed-out. Gdm wo

If you could wait some days, I will help you with the debian packaging. I
will come back to my normal life next sunday. I know how to do, for this
menu appear, and choose elsa as your default x login manager.
And for information how to stop elsa, just kill it!
Cheers

Hi Jeff,
i don't know if you are basing Bodhi in any other distro. For debian-like
distros, tehre are scripts in /etc/rc2.d (which are symlinks to /etc/init.d)
and there is also a variable that sets which is thedefault display manager,
and prevents any other DM to even load. I think that var is in
