Re: [e-users] DR17
Hi, I have been using DR17 for over a year now, and I use it successfully on my thinkpad t43 laptop in a corporate environment. Works 99%, even with a dual monitor setup. Love the fact that the second monitor I connect to my laptop acts as an independant desktop. The only two issues I have is that since the last cvs build the screen lock no longer accepts my biometric finger scan, so I have to manually type my password to unlock, and also that any shelves created can't seem to exist on the second desktop/monitor. Knowing that a rebuild from CVS could break when I try to do an update (which is a problem when trying to meet a deadline), I always keep a spare 4 gig partition to which I first mirror my base install, and then do the CVS build on that. I can then happily dual boot between my stable build and the new one, and once I reckon the new one is stable, I move it to my main partition. Doing this had always allowed me to keep up to date without the worries of breaking my system. Personally I think DR17 is stable enough for daily use. Randall Svancara writes: I have been monitoring the DR17 project for several years now with anticipation of someday being able to actually use it. DR17 compiles and works great. I am testing it out right now. I realize it is far from complete and very buggy...but it works. Kudos to the development team. I look forward to helping out with testing and debugging in the future. [e-users] DR17, eterm (cust and paste) and bioapi usage
Hi. New to this list, but not new to Enlightenment :) In the last week I had updated Enlightenment DR17 to the latest CVS. Firstly, things are just getting better and better... So I Finally decided to dump Konsole and remove all kde-base built packages from my system (using gentoo), and move onto eterm 0.9.3 (using screen, and the eterm escreen theme). LOVE IT, but ran into one major problem that is already causing me grief. In Konsole I could highlight text using mouse, right click =, and cut 'n paste this to anywhere else. I seem to have lost this ability in eterm. A right click just does nothing. Anyone know how I can cut text from inside eterm to the XClipboard ? The second issue i am having (and this is purely since the latest CVS update, is the 'integration' of enlightenments screen saver with password lock into the thinkpad t43 bioapi. When I try to swipe my finger on the fingerprint reader, nothing happens, and I then have to remember my password, and log on manually. (the first time was hell, as I had not actually used my manual password logon in over a year !) The bioAPI system is working fine, and I even re-install the complete system, just to be sure, but the issue remained. I scanned the log files and get: Nov 29 19:39:21 DeepThought pam_bioapi[22095]: Unable to load BioAPI BSP with UUID of {5550454b-2054-464d-2f45-535320425350}, BioAPI error #194d. Searching the bioAPI resources, I find that error 194d is about permissions on the bioapi usb devices in /proc. I know they are correct, as I had double checked, and also bioAPI works on everything else (su interminal, sudo etc etc). Does Enlightenment screen-lock use its own code, or is it something X-Related, as XScreensaver needs a patch to make it work with the bioAPI I had also seen a lot of users mention that if XScreensaver is set to run setuid root, then they get the same issue, so I am thinking that the enlightenment screensaver/lock is actually running as another user, and not my logged in user ? Anyone know if this is so ? Any pointers would be appreciated. (I am now looking at the code for screen lock, and the code patch for XScreensaver, so see if I cannot see some simalarity, and maybe create a patch for Enlightenment screen lock.) In Konsole I could highlight text using mouse, right click =, and cut 'n paste this to anywhere else. I seem to have lost this ability in eterm. A right click just does nothing. Right click being bound to cut or copy violates the standard and is a bug in Konsole. The correct use for right click, which you'll see in Eterm, xterm, and most any other terminal, is extend selection. If you have made a selection, for instance back in the scrollback buffer, right clicking will extend the selection from the original starting point to wherever you right click. Eterm automatically copies the selected text to the X PRIMARY selection, so no manual copy action is required. Most applications will properly paste this selected text using the middle mouse button.
