Hello, i tried the process you described (xcompmgr and Xorg) but i had only nice shadow, while only a very little true transparency - mostly looking as a glitch. So yeah if you can send me the binary of Bling i would really appreciate it. Otherwise i am not sure this machine can even do translucency: Linux x86, IBM Thinkpad T42, 64Megs Video Ram, ATI X300, 1 GIG RAM, 1,8GHz Intel CPU Pentium centrino i think about what i searched it seems it should work but i also found a lot of memory leaks complaints about xcompmgr thank you martin --- Mike Russo [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: although the bling module (which is in CVS though i dont use it) has a nice gui and fades windows in and out when you move the mouse over them, i find using xcompmgr (with a bunch of options set, like 'xcompmgr -fF -cC -r7 -o.65 -l-10 -t-8 -D3' which gives you fades and a good shadow radius) and the latest version of GNOME Terminal as the best way to get transparency. make sure to get the version of xcompmgr from X.org's git repositories because AFAIK only that version sets the NET_WM hint that allows GNOME terminal to know that a composite manager is running and gives you true transparency in the terminal window. Re: [e-users] BLING!
Bling will do everything xcompmgr will do, allowing you to have dropshadows on all windows to the windows below them (not just on the desktop), and have menus and windows fade in and out. Bling will go the extra mile beyond xcompmgr, allowing you to have smooth transitions when you change focus to another window and automatically setting the inactive windows slightly transparent. I don't know how much more it's possible for Bling to do -- compiz really goes nutty with the swaying windows and rotating virtual desktop cube -- but it is pretty cool (although not really configurable just yet). A cave? No. Just that since I've found E17 I haven't bothered looking at other desktops/WMs. They all pale into insignificance. Though compiz looks nice. Re: [e-users] Bling Bug
Thanks for the bug report. The module is currently quite naive with respect to screens and will always reference the default (first) screen and draw on a single root window. Hopefully I can fix this soon. Ibukun I know it is still VERY Beta but I wanted to give some feedback. I have a dual display monitor (No Xinerama) and any apps I open in the second display the shadows and fading occur on the first display. No crashes as of yet though! I have the same issue with the dialog boxes of the shelf and other modules if I right click on them on the second display their menus appear on the first display. Everything works correctly on the first display (obviously). Thanks for all of the hard work developers! Robert - Using Tomcat but need to do more? Need to support web services, security?
