Hello,

i tried the process you described (xcompmgr and Xorg)
but i had only nice shadow, while only a very little
true transparency - mostly looking as a glitch.

So yeah if you can send me the binary of Bling i would
really appreciate it.

Otherwise i am not sure this machine can even do
translucency: Linux x86, IBM Thinkpad T42, 64Megs
Video Ram, ATI X300, 1 GIG RAM, 1,8GHz Intel CPU
Pentium centrino i think

about what i searched it seems it should work but i
also found a lot of memory leaks complaints about
xcompmgr

thank you

make sure to get the version of xcompmgr from
 X.org's git

Yep, I'm using the 8762 driver with Xorg 7.0. I wasn't aware that

Hi,

Just to share some feedbacks with you. I am using video frame buffer (no
any hardware acceleration), with an ATI IGP X200 system. The Composite
stuff is working really well, using pure software rendering on top of a
frame buffer. I am using the kdrive X Server, so I believe there no need
of huge graphic board ressources, in my case this is the Sempron processor
which do everything !

I will second that a NVIdia card and X and Composite extensions seems to

Mine somehow resolved and he resolved it too through nuking his config

Just tried that - It's still all grey. I can even get into the config
settings for the bling module, but it doesn't seem to make any difference.

Maybe my X is horked up. When I try to run rdesktop I get this:

According to the nvidia readme[1] you have to enable glx with composite
implicitly in your x config (depending on which version of x and which
version of the driver). Just put this in your x config in the nvidia
driver section:

Option AllowGLXWithComposite 1

you may also have to turn on the RenderAccel manually as well (it's
supposed to be automatic but doesn't always work)

Option RenderAccel 1

Bling will do everything xcompmgr will do, allowing you to have
dropshadows on all windows to the windows below them (not just on the
desktop), and have menus and windows fade in and out. Bling will go the
extra mile beyond xcompmgr, allowing you to have smooth transitions when
you change focus to another window and automatically setting the
inactive windows slightly transparent.

I don't know how much more it's possible for Bling to do -- compiz
really goes nutty with the swaying windows and rotating virtual desktop
cube -- but it is pretty cool (although not really configurable just yet).

Re: [e-users] Bling Bug

2006-07-10 Thread Ibukun Olumuyiwa
Thanks for the bug report. The module is currently quite naive with
respect to screens and will always reference the default (first) screen
and draw on a single root window. Hopefully I can fix this soon.

Ibukun

I know it is still VERY Beta but I wanted to give some feedback. I have
a dual display monitor (No Xinerama) and any apps I open in the second
display the shadows and fading occur on the first display. No crashes
 as of yet though!

I have the same issue with the dialog boxes of the shelf and other
modules if I right click on them on the second display their menus
appear on the first display. Everything works correctly on the first
 display (obviously).

Thanks for all of the hard work developers!

 Robert
