+1 for NOT exporting to a CSV file!

I have always discouraged the use of the option to save passwords in browsers
and would suggest considering the move to a password manager. There are free
ones with good reputations available on a variety of platforms, including some
that only save data locally.

Re: [Mozilla Enterprise] Attention Ivanti Customers: Patch Definitions for Firefox ESR Break Policies.json

2020-10-01 Thread Eddie Rowe
I am happy to report that Ivanti has corrected this issue after an email
discussion imparting the TLDL version of how Firefox uses policies.

Policies.json

The most recent patches from Ivanti for Firefox ESR (and probably the Rapid
Release version as well) have functionality to add a registry value to disable
app updates. In so doing they just broke your policies.json file from being
used since GPO trumps policies.json. I will be logging a ticket with them
shortly, but the process is always painful since the person in support has no
idea what the "engineers" are doing with the patch definitions. Even when
something is completely broken it can take multiple attempts to get an issue
corrected. 8-(

Yes, and they don't always login (i.e. someone uses this computer, then
that computer but it could happen after two months!)

At end, I'll suggest to backup their saved password to a CSV file, then
to re-import them in newer version.

Is there any way to do it by command-line?

all exporting them to plain text file is IMO security problem. They
should stay encrypted, maybe master password protected even when exported.

Screenshot would be helpful, but definitely open a bugzilla bug for this.

I have seen this behavior with a number of input boxes for a few months
on "standard" Linux Firefox (the Ubuntu packages). It is annoying but
isn't common and I hadn't taken much notice until you asked.

If/when it happens again I will note where and report it /
add it to an existing bug.

Yes, for a PC used by only one user.
But we are in organization; PCs are used by many users.
So this solution is not practicable. Patience.

You could make a chain update from 52 to 68 to 78. However that would
require detection rule to notice when users profile has been updated
from 52 to 68 so that it would be safe to update 68 to 78.

Is there a easy way to distinguish 52 profile from 68 profile?

Of course if your computers are used by multiple people then there are
bigger problems.

Also 68 will not use 78 profile (other way it works, 78 updates 68
profile to 78), so if you have roaming profiles in use you might start
to get support tickets about FF refusing to use profile.

Re: [Mozilla Enterprise] CHange default profile root folder

2020-10-01 Thread Fjoerfoks
Hi Gilles,

Well actually there is by using the parameter -profile. If you are able to
edit the shortcut delivered to the users,
you should add e.g.: -profile H:\firefox or -profile
d:\users\\firefox.
More on the parameters can be found at
https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/Command_Line_Options#User_Profile
.
