Many thanks to Vlad, Ben and Lukas for your kind help.
Though I now had 5.5.5 I decided to re-install Eclipse 3.2.2 and re-
install Erlide.
I made sure the ERL_TOP was set to /usr/local/lib/erlang where I had
installed and it now connects, first project edited, compiled and
invoked from the console. I believe I was pointing to the 5.5.5
directory below that before.
I have restarted Eclipse after using it with Erlide and it still
comes up and still connects to Erlang and the console invoke still
works so I am very happy now.
Erlang is what I have been wanting for 20 years! There is SO MUCH
that can be done with this!
