If I may, I'd recommend a Pentium 4 based system if
you go single CPU. The latest P4 CPUs have 512Kb cache
so they be smoking in many things. Of course it gets
tough when you decide what you want to do for RAM. You
already have half a gig of SDRAM which I'd hate to put
aside unless you're COMPLETELY doing a new machine. If
so then I'd go for a DDR or RDRAM based P4 solution.
On the Dual CPU front it would be a tough choice and
dependant upon your budget. The AMD MP processors are
smokin' but like to run a little warmer than Intel. Of
course you may save a bit more going that route
though. The XEON processors are the only way you can
go Dual if you want to go above 1Ghz on the Intel
side. I'm sure KBob will offer some insight to Dual
CPU usage and performance. Right Bob? :-)
