I may have hosed myself. I bought an AOpen AK77-600 Max motherboard which has a Promise PDC20378 SATA controller and a Via 8237 SATA controller, and I bought a Western Digital SATA drive to go with it. The BIOS recognizes the drive fine, but neither my Debian 3.0r1 or Mandrake 9.2 disks see it.
