Bill,

Our 4 drive tires are 12OD when inflated. I get the jist of what you
are saying but with all due respect doing things our way is what makes
the sport worth doing. The fact that there is no ONE best way is what
electric racing is all about to me. When nobody could get a rear
engine dragster down the track safely they all but one abandon the
idea. What do they all drive today? Thanks Mr Garlits.
Rest assured our new car Juiced Up will have MUCH larger rear tires.
But it will also have the world's only quad tandem electric race motor
that has never been tested before. Maybe it will work, maybe it won't.
Finding out will be the reward.

Shawn Lawless

PS: It will work won't it Jim H?

Try 8 inch diameter tires like those on Orange Juice.

Gartlis has written about the merits of the small tire setup as
 Shawn has on the OJ
dragster. So Shawn give that setup a few more

In theory, there is no difference between theory and
 practice, but in practice. :-)

The ICE drag racing folks have been at this for 50 years. A
ton of time, money, and runs down the track have been devoted to
improving traction. If there were any way to get a tiny bit more
traction, they would be doing it.

The smartest move is to find the very fastest car that has
about the same weight and HP that you do, then copy the tires and
chassis design. It is very unlikely that you are going to do any
better, especially during your first few years on the track.

Narrow track, tall wrinkle sidewalls, wide contact patch =
good traction and stability on the drag strip.

When EVs start going faster than ICEs on the drag strip,
then we will have to figure out how to get more traction than they

do.

horsepower is limited,you
can make more use of your avaible horsepower by pairing small diameter

with a large gear ratio. It takes more power to spin a larger

can save horsepower with the smaller tires and apply it to a larger

I thought the same thing, but I went to the Lotus site, and they have
 the same info: http://www.grouplotus.com/mediactr/

Whether that means ZAP has improved their business model or Lotus has
been hoodwinked remains to be seen.

When I first read about this joint Zap/Lotus project it seemed like a
 joke.

The folks at Zap have always been what we -don't- want in the EV business.

OK... if I had to guess between the Lotus company being hoodwinked and the
ZAP people improving their business model I would have to guess that Zap
 has
brought some exceptionally gifted con artists aboard.

If something has changed as far a Zap is concerned, I haven't heard about
 it.

This is all extremely bizarre beyond words. I had always thought of Lotus as
a reputable business building quality products. Sometimes you are viewed by
the world with the company you keep. If anyone has some thoughts on the
subject you can always write to Lotus Engineering at
http://www.grouplotus.com/contact/general_enquiry.php?section=17 Maybe they
are just extremely ignorant and need to be educated or maybe they have a new
policy of not caring what people think of their business practices.

There is more detailed report on CNET:
http://news.com.com/2100-11389_3-6154854.html
The important bits:
to be on sale by the end of 2008
350 miles range
155mph
10-min recharge capability
cost target: $60 000
CNET reporter dropped in a link to Altair ..

If this was for real, i'd buy it. Thats basically the specs for a
dream car PLUS its a Lotus
The pricetag would be justified.

Hi Doug,

Illinois.

I'm actually quite surprised they have a program.

The rebate is for up to $4,000.00.

Just saw Jessie James of West Coast Choppers was fined $275,000 by
the CARB for violating emission regulations on his customer's
motorcycles. It was like 50 custom bikes he made that were in
violation. Ouch.

Think of the electric motorcycles you could build for $275,000.

Matt,
Where are you buying your distilled water? I
typically buy it in one gallon jugs at the local
grocery store. If I can get the house brand on sale
it's about .89/gallon. If I have to spring for the
name brand stuff, Sparklets or some such, it's about
$1.29 a gallon. Who knows, we pay more for gas out
here in Southern California, so maybe they give us a
break on the water. I go through about 2 gallons month
on my 24 battery truck.

 Lawrence,
I don't think there is always a Buy It Now option. The seller can
choose to include it or not. Or did you mean something else?
