If you’re in Rotterdam, you might be able to grab a Nissan e-NV200 for less
than €5,000

Electric vans are cheaper to maintain and fuel than conventional diesel
commercial vehicles, but their higher sticker price often discourages small
businesses and entrepreneurs from making the switch.

But over in Rotterdam, Netherlands, generous incentives designed to remove
older, polluting vehicles from the city’s streets means that eligible
businesses can buy a brand new Nissan e-NV200 for just €4,950 ($6,505).

As PureGreenCars reports, the city of Rotterdam is offering business buyers
€2,500 in incentives for ditching a clunker for a new plug-in vehicle.
Combine this with €3,000 in national plug-in car incentives and a local
incentive fund of €7,000, and the net cost of buying an e-NV200 in Rotterdam
is just 24 percent of the official sticker price. In nearby Amsterdam —
where incentives aren’t quite as generous — you the same van costs €5,650.

Based on the Nissan LEAF drivetrain and battery pack, the e-NV200 is
designed to be used primarily in cities, but thanks to optional on-board 6
kilowatt charger and DC quick charge capabilities can be used on longer
cross-country trips.

With a real-world range in of between 60 and 90 miles depending on road
conditions and usage patterns, the e-NV200 makes the ideal delivery vehicle
for small businesses like florists or for small traders looking for a
versatile vehicle to transport equipment and materials in.

It’s also available as a five-seat passenger vehicle, making it perfect for
life as a taxi cab.

For businesses in Rotterdam who want to buy a car rather than a van, the
total cost is as low as €7,450 after incentives for a base-model Nissan
LEAF. Those in Amsterdam will find the same car can be purchased from
€8,350.

Other electric vehicles can also be purchased under the same program, with
comparable discounts, but as you might expect however, there are a few
catches to the unbelievably low-priced deal.

The e-NV200 is also available as a five-seat van perfect for using as a
taxi.

First, the cash for clunker incentive is only available to the first 5,000
business applicants and in order to qualify, applicants have to have placed
their orders and taken delivery of the vehicle by December 31.

Second, the prices quoted above apply to Visia Flex models of the Nissan
LEAF and e-NV200. Since Flex pricing doesn’t include the cost of the battery
pack, businesses will need to add on the cost of a monthly battery rental on
top of the purchase price.

If you happen to be in either city however, there’s probably never a better
time to dump the pump for a plug — so be sure to get down to your local
electric vehicle dealer as soon as possible.

A new electric for under €8,000?! Only in Rotterdam
September 01, 2014 by Faye Sunderland

The Dutch city of Rotterdam is offering incentives to scrap older vehicles,
which will help the latest zero-emission vehicles sell for a fraction of
their original cost.

According to Nissan, for its newly-launched e-NV200 electric van, that means
a price tag of under €5,000 for business buyers – less than 25 per cent of
its original retail price.

Likewise its €24,110 LEAF electric hatchback is reduced to just €7,450 plus
a monthly battery rental charge.

A series of incentives and subsidies for the lowest emission vehicles means
that prices are being slashed for businesses in the city. Rotterdam is now
offering a €2,500 scrappage incentive to try and remove old, higher emission
vehicles off the streets, effectively subsidising the purchase of newer,
cleaner vehicles.

Coupled with exempt to registration fee and road taxes, and other perks
including free parking in the city centre and a grant worth up to €1,450 for
the installation of home chargers, electric vehicles are becoming a very
affordable alternative to running high emission, older vehicles in the
Netherlands.

"By scrapping older vehicles and incentivising buyers to replace them with
zero-emission electric vehicles, Rotterdam is taking a huge step in
improving air quality. Vehicles like Nissan e-NV200 and Nissan LEAF are
ideal for city-based fleets as well as for private motorists who want to
make a difference to the quality of life in their home town," said Jordi
Vila, Managing Director Nissan Netherlands.

The Rotterdam initiative is just one of a number of schemes in the
Netherlands designed to promote zero-emission mobility. In Amsterdam, for
example, electric vehicle incentives bring the cost of an e-NV200 Visia Flex
down to just €5,650.

A nationwide EV support scheme sees an automatic €3,000 taken from the list
price of an electric van or taxi and this is then supplemented by local
municipal EV subsidies of up to €7,000.

But to take advantage of the huge discounts, buyers need to hurry.
Rotterdam's scrappage subsidy is only available to the first 5,000
applicants and orders need to have been placed before December with
deliveries by the end of the year.
