Since the acquisition of Reva, Mahindra has been utilising the electric
vehicle technology on its existing range of vehicles. Mahindra has been
working on three new electric vehicles, beginning with the Verito and the
other two being commercial vehicles, the Genio and the Maxximo.

As the government is increasingly supporting electric vehicles, we will
benefit not just in passenger cars but even in commercial vehicles,
mentioned Dr Goenka, Executive Director, Mahindra & Mahindra. The Reva e2O
has become highly affordable as the duties for electric vehicles have come
down.

We are already testing the e-Verito, e-Genio and the e-Maxximo, he further
added. Mahindra has been looking at getting the electric version of the
Verito for a while and we could expect it to be launched this year. The
company has invested about INR 150 crores for developing these three
vehciles. This will be the third vehicle on the Verito platform and a first
four-door Indian electric vehicle as well.

Mahindra is even utilising the electric technology for making hybrid
vehicles. The company had showcased the XUV500 Hybrid at the 2014 Auto Expo
and we can expect it to be launched in 2016, along with the automatic
variant launch too at a similar time ...

Mahindra may launch electric Verito this year
By Ajith Kumar S May 30, 2015

Indian automaker Mahindra and Mahindra is working on three electric variants
of its existing models.

And of these ” e-Verito, e-Genio and e-Maxximo ” the electric variant of
Verito is expected to be rolled out later this year, Business Standard has
reported. It should be the first four-door Indian electric vehicle when
launched.

The company, which acquired the electric car company Reva recently, has been
adapting its existing range of vehicles to EV technology.

The electric variants of the commercial vehicles Genio and Maxximo are part
of the company’s experiments with EV technology in this segment.

Mahindra has invested about Rs150 crore to develop the three vehicles, BS
has reported.

The automaker had shown its inclination for electric vehicle technology when
it showcased the XUV500 Hybrid at The Auto Expo 2014. Mahindra then stated
that it planned to roll out the vehicle and an automatic variant in 2016.

The company has been working with its Korean subsidiary Ssangyong to develop
new engines for their vehicles including a possible petrol engine oriented
to the export market.

Recently the Indian government introduced Faster Adoption and Manufacturing
of Electric vehicles (FAME) scheme which has led to the lowering of prices
in the specific automotive segment. Mahindra itself brought down prices of
its Reva e2O following the reduction of duties and the introduction of
subsidies.

Last month, Mahindra revealed that it was planning to introduce the electric
version of the Verito sedan in this fiscal. Now the car has been spotted on
the roads, indicating that the launch may not be too far away.

Dubbed the Verito EV, the car was displayed at the 2012 and 2014 Auto Expo.
Mahindra will initially place it in the taxi and commercial car-rental space
according to M&M automotive & farm equipment sector executive director,
Pawan Goenka.

According to Mahindra, the Verito EV's batteries take seven hours to charge
fully. The car has a maximum range of 80 km and can attain a top speed of 85
kph.

The Verito EV will benefit from the Government of India's recently
introduced Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid &) Electric Vehicles
in India (FAME India) scheme, which provides incentives ranging between Rs.
11,000 and Rs. 1,38,000 on electric and hybrid vehicles over 4 metres in
length.

The Verito EV will be one of Mahindra's nine launches scheduled for this
fiscal year.
