Xpeng Motors produced 10,000 G3 electric cars and working on a second model

Xpeng Motors, the Chinese start-up which this year started deliveries, in
June produced its 10,000th Xpeng G3 electric car - 188 days since the launch
on December 12th, 2018. Xpeng Motors' production plant is located in
Zhengzhou, China

According to Xpeng, 7,359 sales occurred between January and May (including
2,200 in April and 2,704 in May) which was the best result among new EV
manufacturers in China.

Xpeng Motors is interesting because it tries to borrow many ideas from Tesla
- both cars and business approach. One of the examples is its own
proprietary fast-charging network, which by the end of this year will count
200 stations.

"The Xpeng G3 is supported by an expanding sales, post-sales and
charging infrastructure. Xpeng kicked off its “new-retail” sales program in
April 2019, aiming to build over 100 direct and authorized sales stores, as
well as a network of post-sales service centers, by end 2019.

As the only Chinese EV carmaker to build and operate its own
supercharging network, Xpeng is also planning to expand its supercharging
stations to 200 across 30 cities by end 2019, and 1,000 nationwide in the
next 3 years, while Xpeng customers are also connected to over 100,000
third-party charging piles across China."

press release
Xpeng Motors completes production of 10,000 units of G3 SUV. Smart EV G3
tops April, May sales among China new EV makers
from XPENG Motors / June 18, 2019

June 18th 2019 - Xpeng Motors (Xpeng) today completed the production of
10,000 units of the G3 smart EV, its first production model, 188 days after
its official launch on December 12th, 2018. Xpeng is one of the few new EV
manufacturers in China to have delivered production models to customers.

“Today marks a critical milestone for Xpeng Motors, validating our
end-to-end capability, from R and design, through manufacturing, sales and
delivery, to charging and post-sales services. It is also an endorsement of
our ability to manage the supply chain, and our sales and distribution
strategy,” said Xpeng Motors Chairman & CEO He Xiaopeng, at a ceremony in
the Xpeng Motors Intelligent Plant in Zhengzhou.

The 10,000th unit of the G3 rolled off the production line today (see
pictures), at Xpeng Motors Intelligent Plant in Zhengzhou, which has 273
smart robots and 85% automated welding facilities.

The Xpeng G3 also topped the number of deliveries to buyers among new EV
makers in China in both April and May 2019, according to official data
released by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), with 2,200 and 2,704
units delivered in April and May respectively. The CPCA data showed that
Xpeng delivered a total of 7,359 units of the G3 from January to May, again
ranking it No. 1 by deliveries over the period among new EV makers in China.

The Xpeng G3 is supported by an expanding sales, post-sales and charging
infrastructure. Xpeng kicked off its “new-retail” sales program in April
2019, aiming to build over 100 direct and authorized sales stores, as well
as a network of post-sales service centers, by end 2019.

As the only Chinese EV carmaker to build and operate its own supercharging
network, Xpeng is also planning to expand its supercharging stations to 200
across 30 cities by end 2019, and 1,000 nationwide in the next 3 years,
while Xpeng customers are also connected to over 100,000 third-party
charging piles across China.

The Xpeng G3’s appeal to Chinese consumers is partly due to its ability to
navigate the challenging driving conditions in China. Data from on-the-road
G3 SUVs indicates that the auto parking success rate exceeded 70%, ACC
(Adaptive Cruise Control) adoption rate reached 30% while voice command
penetration rate surpassed 85%, and onboard navigation features are utilized
by 95% of users.

“The smart electric vehicle market in China is at a crossroads, where
companies focusing on product differentiation and quality delivery stand out
from the rest, and we see it an irreversible trend,” CEO He Xiaopeng added.

“Today sees us delivering on our promise to bring

Itching to test drive several electric car models in the Biggest Little
City?

Motorists in Reno-Sparks will get the chance to sample various electric
vehicles or EVs this coming Saturday — provided they register online and nab
an open slot.

The Nevada Department of Transportation and NV Energy are teaming up to hold
their latest Electric Vehicle Guest Drive event on June 13 at the utility
company’s Neil Road facility. It is the program’s fourth public test driving
event in the state and the second one in Reno, which held its first event
last October. The other driving events were held in Las Vegas.

“We want to give customers the capability of being able to touch and feel
electric vehicles and demystify any questions they might have (about them),”
said Sarah Chatterjee, director of renewable energy programs for NV Energy.
“Many of our customers have never gotten to drive an electric vehicle and we
want to provide them a fun way to do it.”

Several EV models to test
With more than seven models to try, even folks who have driven an EV before
could get some extra mileage from the event if they’re interested in
comparing different vehicles. Models that will be at the event include
Tesla’s Model S, 3 and X; the BMW i3 REX; and the Mitsubishi Outlander.

Even if you miss out on a slot for a test drive, you can still attend the
event just to take a look at the vehicles up close. Previous events
typically get between 150 people to 200 people test driving cars but they
also see up to 300 people stopping by just to see the vehicles, Chatterjee
said.

More: Tesla Reno service center officially opens, taking appointments

Asked if drivers can test out features in some of the vehicles such as
Tesla’s Autopilot, Chatterjee responded that they can do whatever is allowed
by the law. Driving is also only allowed within a set course.

“They can operate the vehicle within the guidelines allowed on the road,”
Chatterjee said. “Safety is a very important thing for us as well.”

Each car will also have an EV expert accompanying the test drivers who can
talk about the vehicles and answer questions. Attendees who do not want to
drive a vehicle also can have an EV expert do the driving instead.

Nevada Electric Highway
In addition to helping consumers get familiarized with the vehicles, another
driving force behind the program is to raise awareness about the state’s
growing number of electric charging stations.

NV Energy provides incentives for businesses, for example, to install
electric vehicle charging stations on their premises. NDOT also wants to
raise awareness about Nevada’s expanding electric charging network.

“Following up on the establishment of the Nevada Electric Highway, this
event is another way we are proud to support the transportation options
which will keep Nevada safe and connected well into the future,” said Meg
Ragonese, NDOT spokeswoman. “It also provides Nevadans an additional
opportunity to participate in more environmentally-sustainable
transportation options.”

Folks who miss the event or are unable to get a test driving slot will have
another opportunity to take part sometime in the fall, with another test
drive planned in the spring as well. Scheduling events can sometimes be
tricky in Reno due to weather.

“We want to make sure we have good, clear weather and no ice on the roads,”
Chatterjee said.

IF YOU GO
The Electric Vehicle Guest Drive event will be held on Saturday, July 13,
from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at NV Energy’s main office building at 6100 Neil Road
in Reno. To take part in a test drive register at:

Bottom line: No, do not buy from 'them'.

Its unclear what peaks Steve's interest in this
 folding electric scooter.

Is it for himself (will need an adult size one)
Is it the price?
The fact that its folding (for last mile use)?

*There are many folding electric scooters available (see links below).

I think the (x1) scooter shown above is available at lots of different
prices and using many different names.

Anyone interested in purchasing an e-scooter, you could wade through all the
links below. Just discard/ignore the ones made for kids, and focus just on
the adult size ones that fit your needs.

My guess is that the pictures were taken in Florida.

This was an unsuccessful Kickstarter project in 2017 - perhaps he found funding
elsewhere.

Probably at these $$ Prices, the folks importing this, are just barely
covering COST, in hopes that by the time the first WAVE of customers
patiently wait a month or more for delivery, that popularity will rise
enough to ODER another container at a more normal retail price point.
