Re: [EVDL] veemo
Whether they will decide to sell them to individual consumers, I don't know. However, the bike share market serves a completely different purpose. As does the car sharing market, like car2go. There are many people who don't want to own a vehicle and there are many places that you may be that you, all of a sudden, need a vehicle but don't have one. Or, you have a vehicle but paying for parking is more expensive than a car or bike share. Normally, with these car & bike shares, you don't pay anything unless you use the vehicle. So, there's no "pay every month". It's much more like renting a car or bike, but much, much more convenient. Anyway, this is the first case I know of where you can rent a e-bike that looks like a small car. Has anyone seen these? https://www.rideveemo.com/ Someone in that company posted on Seattle Bike Blog (search for "Kody says") https://www.seattlebikeblog.com/2017/04/28/by-killing-pronto-seattle-could-become-the-center-of-private-bike-share-innovation/ It appears they are currently available at UBC (Vancouver BC). In my opinion, a cross between a e-bike and a 3 wheeled EV. https://www.i4u.com/2017/05/123174/cut-tesla-model-s-stolen-netherlands-was-discovered-berlin-police Stolen Tesla Model S Torn To Pieces Discovered By Berlin Police Jun 1 2017 Luigi Lugmayr [image https://static1.i4u.com/sites/default/files/imagecache/main_image_large/images/2017/05/cut-tesla.jpg Credit: Berlin Police ] Cut up Tesla Model S frame found in a Lithuanian transporter. A German police report describes surprising find during a traffic control in Berlin. A Mercedes transporter was loaded with pieces of a cut up Tesla Model S. The truck had parts of the frame and the whole battery pack loaded. The driver of the transporter registered in Lithuania told police he bought the parts in Amsterdam. He presented them a fake invoice. A check of the frame parts revealed that this Model S was stolen in the Netherlands on the weekend. The driver was arrested on charges of dealing in stolen goods. It must be heart-breaking for the Model S owner to find out that the thieves cut his or her car up. This is not some sophisticated heist like in a movie. The Tesla got cut up to be used for parts and not for reassembly. A big reason why the Tesla was destroyed by the thieves is its integrated always on GPS tracking. Tesla cars have a very low theft rate. This case is rather unusual. It is unclear how the thieves managed to steal the Model S in the first place. There are some very valuable parts in an electric car starting with the huge battery. Also of high value is the electric engine. The huge iPad like screen will also fetch a nice sum on the used car parts market. [© I4U LLC 2017] https://electrek.co/2017/05/31/tesla-model-s-stolen-parts/ Here’s what happens to professionally stolen Tesla vehicles: dismantled Model S found in truck May. 31st 2017 Fred Lambert [images https://electrek.files.wordpress.com/2016/11/tesla-model-s-hack.png?w=1024&h=773 Tesla Model S https://electrek.files.wordpress.com/2017/05/tesla-dismantled-germany.jpg (chopped) ] Tesla’s vehicles get rarely stolen thanks to its always-on advanced GPS tracking feature, but there are always a few non-techie thieves who make the mistakes and it results in some satisfying justice, like when a Model S was briefly stolen in Vancouver and the owner gave live-instructions to the police while they were catching up with the thief [ https://electrek.co/2015/11/03/tesla-owner-tracked-stolen-model-s-via-iphone-app-leads-to-arrest-enjoyment/ ]. But there are also some professional car thieves who know exactly what they are doing. We reported last year on two separate events of new Tesla vehicles being stolen in Europe [ https://electrek.co/2016/08/19/tesla-model-s-stolen-europe/ ] and they were never recovered. Now we might have a good idea of what happened to those vehicles. In each case, the key fobs weren’t stolen and the vehicles not trackable, which means that the thieves either have an unknown sophisticated way to start and drive the car, or they managed to quietly tow it. The leading theory is that they were quickly dismantled for parts. It’s not a secret to anyone that there are sophisticated networks of car thieves out there who manage to make vehicle vanish and reappear half-way around the world – in one piece or not. Again, Tesla’s always-on advanced GPS tracking feature can deter some of those thieves, but apparently not all of them. Today, the German police reported that they stopped a truck at the border coming from the Netherlands. The vehicle had several Tesla Model S parts in the back, including a whole battery pack: Berliner Zeitung [ http://www.berliner-zeitung.de/berlin/polizei/transporter-kontrolliert-bundespolizisten-entdecken-zerlegten-tesla-s-auf-ladeflaeche-26998770 ] reported that the 40-year-old driver claimed to have bought the vehicle parts in Amsterdam and presented a bill to back his story. The police investigated the parts and instead found that they belong to a Model S stolen in the Netherlands four days ago and that the bill was forged. Like in the two previous cases in Germany, it’s not clear how the vehicle was stolen in the first place. For owners, it’s important to make sure that your Tesla account is secured with a strong password and to keep your key fobs in a secure location at a safe distance from the vehicle when parked.
