The Port of San Diego recently deployed two electric cargo vehicles as part
of a project funded by the California Energy Commission (CEC) [
https://calenergycommission.blogspot.com/2018/08/energy-commission-supports-port-of-san.html
] to accelerate the port’s transition to zero-emission transport.

The CEC awarded nearly $6 million to the San Diego Port Tenants Association
to demonstrate 10 vehicles and other sustainable freight technologies in and
around the port.

Five corporate tenants at the port will get hands-on experience with the two
BYD [.cn] electric cargo trucks. Additional vehicles funded by the grant
will be delivered later this year, including BYD electric yard tractors and
forklifts and semi-trucks modified with battery-electric propulsion systems
by Efficient Drivetrains and Transportation Power.

The grant also supports a demonstration of intelligent transportation
systems now under construction by Peloton Technology. Platooning technology
will enable freight trucks to sync their cruise controls, letting trucks
follow each other closely enough to reduce air resistance. Freight signal
priority technology reduces emissions by giving freight trucks priority at
specialized traffic signals, helping eliminate unnecessary stops.

“This project will offer multiple port tenants the opportunity to see how
zero-emission technology can improve the efficiency of their operations
while supporting the climate goals of the state and port, and improving air
quality at the port and in the surrounding community,” said Energy
Commissioner Janea A. Scott.

A few months after unveiling its new Concept_Two all-electric hypercar,
Rimac is bringing the car to the US for the first time and unveiling a new
‘California edition’.

The Croatian automaker and electric component supplier said that the vehicle
will be at the Monterey Car Week.

But ahead of the show, Rimac unveiled the new edition at the Petersen
Automotive Museum.

Rimac said about the vehicle in a press release:

“Featuring captivating color and trim and new wheels design, the C_Two
was reimagined to tally with the vibrant Californian scene. Rounding it all
up, the new luxurious trunk represents the crown of this creative effort.
Tailored to comfortably fit two 6-liter champagne bottles and crystal
flutes, it celebrates the elegance and vibrant atmosphere of the Monterey
Car Week events. Moreover, it suggests an excellent opportunity to enjoy a
glass of champagne in the company of Rimac guests and hypercar enthusiasts.”

They released a series of images of the new Concept_Two ‘California edition’
...

Rimac says that it will host “private previews at its estate” leading to the
official events of the Monterey Car Week.

The company has been working on the ‘Concept_Two’ for a long time and it
reportedly had to adjust its plans after Tesla raised the bar when it
unveiled its next-gen Roadster prototype.

According to the company, the ‘Concept_Two’ will accelerate from 0 to 60 mph
in just 1.85 seconds.

The acceleration is achieved thanks to the car’s four independent electric
motors that can put out 1,914 hp and 2,300 Nm of torque.

Interestingly, the rear motors are equipped with a two-speed gearbox while
the front motors are equipped with the more traditional single-speed gearbox
for electric vehicles.

Those four motors are powered by 120 kWh of energy capacity held in two new
battery packs capable of DC fast-charging with CCS Combo.

Rimac decided to go with Lithium/Manganese/Nickel chemistry in cylindrical
21700 cells, like the ones in Tesla’s Model 3. They are using 6,960 cells.

They claim a range of 650-km (403 miles) NEDC.

The automaker is best known for its all-electric hypercars, but the company
is also emerging as a supplier for electric vehicle components. They’ve
already got a thriving business supplying some OEMs, like Koenigsegg and
Aston Martin.

The relatively small Croatian company recently received a significant
investment from Porsche and confirmed that it is now collaborating with the
German automaker on electric powertrains.

Earlier this month, we also learned that Rimac is helping build the
all-electric CUPRA e-Racer car.

I wondered the same, thanks for letting us know. He was a major
contributor and helped a lot of people.
