relatively degraded battery just due to the age (unless it was replaced
under warranty), so I'd worry more about that than just sitting for a
few months.
this one the charger is bad, and has only 4 miles left on the guess
ometer and its been sitting for a few months,`70k will this hurt the
battery capatiy in the long run ?

With just the top cover removed, you look at the logic board on top of the
driver and power boards, so most likely that diode is on that board.
NOTE that it is a double sided SMT (Surface Mount Technology) board, so you may
need to unscrew the logic board support screws, unplug the connectors
