Nissan engineers knew this, so they designed using a cheap PbSO4 starter battery that will eventually fail, making profit$ for stealerships. Reading through the leaf forum threads on this topic, there are choices: -go cheap with another wet cell battery, that will fail and need replacing in a few years, with plenty of acid spray corroding near the battery. Advantages: cheap & easy 51r drop in replacement, +auto-tech will accept this type of 12V aux battery. -pay more for a higher-Ah sealed agm, that will last longer before needing replacement. Advantages: not-as-cheap 51r drop in replacement, with a longer life, +auto-tech will accept this type of 12V aux battery. -pay
Re: [EVDL] (+more) Lawrence' Leaf: lithium 12v aux battery
Also, some bluetooth ODBII dongles will keep your cars computer on even if they are just plugged in without a phone connected to them. I generally only use LeafSpy once every few months to get a record of my state of health, and don't bother to collect driving data. This is an older phone that no longer has a sim card and is only used for Leaf Spy, and I had begun leaving this phone in the garage, plugged in to a phone charger, with the phone left "on" so I wouldn't have a delay in turning the phone on and getting it connected to the car when I drove the Leaf. But, having the phone "on" and near the car apparently meant that the Leaf's computer was running and connected to the phone, draining the 12 volt battery in a few days, draining it enough so that the Leaf wouldn't start. When I stopped leaving the phone "on", I quit having Leaf 12 volt battery problems, and this same 12 volt battery is working fine over a year later. Re: [EVDL] Gates' Taycan purchase> Musk’s ire trash-tweets underwhelming-Bill
A Porsche is cool and if I had Bill Gates money I’d by one too but I would also own a Tesla so I could actually drive it somewhere but then Bill probably doesn’t drive far so it’s not an issue for him. He’s rich but I never put him on the same smart scale as Elon and Steve.
